On Obama's Watch: 'Afghan Suicide Blast Kills Eight U.S. Civilians'

The politicization of national security is really accelerating today, with Democrats blaming former President George W. Bush for the attempted bombing of Northwest 253. See, "Dems Blame Bush Admin For Terror Attempt," and "EVERYTHING IS ALWAYS GOOD NEWS FOR REPUBLICANS ..." And others from the previous administration are causing some aggressive prevarication on the left. See, "Dick Cheney needs a reminder - 9/11 on his watch."

But we're a year into the Obama administration. Time for blame is long past. Just today, a devastating suicide blast has killed at least eight in Afghanistan. At the New York Times, "
Afghan Suicide Blast Kills Eight U.S. Civilians," and from CNN, "8 U.S. deaths at military base in Afghanistan" (via Memeorandum):

Eight Americans were killed in a suicide bombing Wednesday at a military base in eastern Afghanistan, according to a U.S. military official and a U.S. Embassy official.

A suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest attacked Forward Operating Base Chapman near the district of Khost in Khost province, said a third official, who asked not to be named.

The military official said the eight people were not from the military.

There were conflicting reports as to whether the bomber walked into the dining facility or the gym at the base.
Folks will recall President Obama's disastrous indecision on the surge for Afghanistan. While the administration dithered, we've seen an escalation of bombings in the main Afghan theater, and Pakistan has deteriorated to a near-collapsed state, with audacious Taliban incursions and bombings almost daily.

As I've reported all week, the Democratic-left is not serious on national security. If we need partisanship, it should be in coordinating pressure on the Carter-esque Obama national security team to act, and to act with vigor and dispatch. Eight Americans lost their lives today (as of this writing), and nearly 300 died on Christmas Day. Since then leftists have been ridiculing conservatives for "wingnuttia," but while these Democratic idiots yammer away, global jihad tightens its grip on civilization.

I'm almost embarrassed to be an American with these people in charge. But at least we know Obambi's almost certainly a one-term loser.

I'm sure you meant to write that "...and 300 nearly died on Christmas Day", Professor Douglas. And I also find it a bit disturbing that you seem to be blaming Obama for the American deaths in Afghanistan rather than the crazy religious fanatic who actually committed the crime, ie the enemy. Obama is not that enemy.

With what the mullah obamaham
is NOT doing, we can almost,
almost be relieved that he is
to be a one term blunder.
It will take us 'embarrassed'
Americans raising hell to get
anything changed. I hope this
sleeping moron in the White
House wakes up very soon. Too
many lives are being lost and
our security and readiness has
been drastically reduced not just
since Obama became the president
but going back to the damn
demosocialistacrats regaining
partial control in 2006.

Obama is not that enemy.

Then he needs to quit acting
like one. Nobama is the one
who changed the ROE in
Afghanistan, Mr. Derris. That
was a pathetic move. That is
one sample of the stupidity of
this president. As far as I am
concerned Obama is a coward, liar,
thief and a traitor to the
values of this country, and our
Constitution. It is all Obama's
now. I am surprised you did not
blame Bush for everyhting.

Yes, "Pakistan has deteriorated to a near-collapsed state," just as you say. But the reason is the US occupation of Afghanistan. Thousands of Pakistani Pashtuns have crossed the artificial border to aid their Pashtun brothers. And Pakistanis resent US incursions on their land.

These wasteful wars are doing more harm than good.

Dr.D,
I think it's interesting that the Obama administration is finding its cover thinning a bit. Sometime they will have to take responsibility for what happens on their watch. Bush is in Texas. Obama is in DC. Whose responsible?

Tom the Redhunter said...

To the best of my knowledge Bush never blamed Clinton for any of things that happened on his watch, and neither did anyone in his administration.

Obama is completely without class. He is narcissistic, vain, and believes his own propaganda. As such, he just can't imagine that anything his his fault, so he sees no need to take responsibility.

Old Rebel - what nonsense. Pakistan's problems go back to it's founding, and were accelerated when Mohammed Zia al-Hac put the country under Sharia law after he took power in 1977. Stop blaming everything on the United States.

Old Rebel said...

Tom the Redhunter,

No doubt, much of Pakistan's problems can be blamed on the British for setting artificial boundaries that deliberately divided ethnic groups. But it's clear DC's foolhardy intervention in Afghanistan has destabilized the region, as well as bankrupting us.

Old Rebel ...

You're schtick is getting old around here ... take it somewhere else, please. We'd be getting it from Islamists one way or the other. Your single-variable explanation is dumb, frankly, and not supported by evidence in any case.

Move to France then, or Canada like the rest of the deserters.

AmPowerBlog said...

Rocky: I won't need to move, idiot. Obama's turning the U.S. into a poor replica of France.

PatriotUSA, it would obviously be a waste of time to engage you in debate. Your "coward, liar,
thief and a traitor" comment clearly places you within the 20-25% of Americans who will attack Obama no matter what he does. Talk about a tired schtick...

I understand that you all are mad (about what exactly is unclear since everything the president does is labeled as incredibly egregious and only seems to enrage you further) but I have a secret to tell you: no American president in history has been as bad as you claim Obama to be and yes, I'm including George W. Bush in that statement.

According to your warped worldview his every word and action are specifically and maliciously designed to rape and destroy everything that is great about this country (and with all due respect Professor Douglas, you're an intelligent fellow but you're also starting to slip into the role of serial hater) yet he's also fantastically incompetent and can't run a lemonade stand, let alone the most powerful country on the planet. He's an evil genius bent on world destruction yet he also can't string five words together without his trusty teleprompter.

This is how the vast majority of America sees you and your fellow enraged "conservatives", as blind haters who are fun and easy to mock. You've turned the Republican party into a national joke with your tea parties and your death panels, and the politicians on your side of the aisle still don't give a damn about your gripes (as long as you still vote for them, and you still do). The only reason anyone besides the ever-loyal base is even considering voting Republican in 2010 is because the Democrats suck just as bad and it's backlash time in the election cycle.

While I personally think that the term Bush Derangement Syndrome was overused as a catchall rebuttal to any criticism of the man during his presidency the people saying it did sometimes have a point. Everything he did wasn't evil or incompetent, just much of it. Some of it was even done well and the people who couldn't recognize that because of blind hatred and partisan ire were as useless to debate as yourself.

But keep up your supposed outrage, the moderates and intellectuals in your party are going to need someone to help them appear sane and competent if they ever want a shot at running things again. And stick with the "clever" nicknames for Obama like Obambi and mullah obamaham, they give your "arguments" intellectual heft. Good day, sir.

Old Rebel said...

Donald Douglas,

He does exist!

Hey, good to see you at least respond to a challenge. But you'll have to do better than simply ignore the facts.

Are you saying that Pakistani Pashtuns have NOT joined other Pashtuns in Afghanistan? Or that the British did NOT deliberately draw borders that divided ethnic groups?

After all the needless bloodshed and wasted treasure, not to mention the toll on our economy and civil liberties, is it possible you're having a twinge of guilt for having cheered it on?

Read this and tell me you think DC's endless wars have accomplished anything other than expanding debt and the power of the Federal government.

"Obama's turning the U.S. into a poor replica of France."

Well, you'll fit right in then won't you.

AmPowerBlog said...

Old Rebel: I mentioned a single variable explanation, U.S. imperialism. The fact is we'd likely be targeted by Islam whether or not we invaded Middle Eastern countries, etc. If you're going to critique, you're going to need to be more thorough. America-bashing alone's not enough.

AmPowerBlog said...

"Well, you'll fit right in then won't you."

This is not a particularly intelligent comment, and neither was your first one.

I'm embarrassed for America that we have this jackass administration. The solution is get the Democrats out of power. And your response is to tell people who dissent to leave the country? That's classic leftist totalitarianism. If you're going to comment on my blog, don't insult me directly, or indirectly, with your juvenility.

Old Rebel said...

"The fact is we'd likely be targeted by Islam whether or not we invaded Middle Eastern countries, etc."

That statement has NO historical justification. However, there are countless examples of people rising up against invaders.

Pointing out the insanity of a no-win, counter-productive war is not "America-bashing," unless you equate "America" with the parasites in the war party. They are the greatest threat to our prosperity, security, and liberty, not goat-herders repelling invaders.

AmPowerBlog said...

"NO historical justification..."

Surely you jest.

Islam is a religion of victory, as I've written here many times. They fight us not SOLELY because of our forward presence. Religious competition would foment a clash of civilizations, initiated just as easily by our rivals as a matter of hegemonic aspirations. Again, my critique is not that you're wrong, but that your focus is too narrow, i.e., single-variable of imperialism. And yes, Old Reb, you're an America-basher ...

Old Rebel said...

Now let's see: you're for amnesty for illegal aliens, you've condoned Bush's and Obama's assault on the Bill of Rights, and I'm the America-basher?

If you're not for endless war, and the resulting explosion of authoritarianism, you're anti-American, no matter the harm that war does to us? That's insane!

Read this and tell me I do not appreciate the threat of radical Islam. Then please justify your support of the Federal government's "Invade the world/Invite the world" policies.

You libtard Obama butt-monkeys just floor me.

Here we are nearly a year into an administration that already has many of us looking fondly back to the era of Jimmy Earl, and you all are still circulating the internet and defending this clearly incompetent former community agitator.

Personally, I think it's not a little entertaining to watch.

I will blame Obama for every single soldier who is killed because of his cowardice.

Rick,

It isn't my fault that most of the dumbMasses get their news from Entertainment Tonight and Inside Edition.

Even they will eventually figure out what we are truly facing in this war...when they accidentally pass by American Idol one night, and land on a news channel and see a mushroom cloud hanging over a major American population center.

On January 20th, 2009, Barack Hussein Obama took an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

He is failing miserably on both fronts.

Rick Derris said...

Dave,

I agree with you that the majority of Americans are on the dumb side of dumb and that they lack even the most basic of political knowledge but that doesn't change my assessment of folks like yourself and PatriotUSA.

And I find it prescient that you bring up the date January 20th, 2009 because that's exactly when your side of the aisle started attacking Obama. First it was how he took the oath, then that he did it again without a bible, then he was spending too much on inaugural parties, then he bowed too much, then his birth certificate, his religion, he's a racist who hates white people, etc...(and this is long after the piddly minutiae like holding his hand over his heart and wearing a flag pin).

As I said earlier, you guys jump on everything the guy says or does like he's the Antichrist (which I've actually heard some people call him). I've never claimed to be a fan of George W. Bush but I at least gave him the benefit of the doubt when he started as president and I especially did so during and after 9/11 but with Obama the Republicans have been out for blood since his inauguration.

Ask yourself: How much did you dislike him when he won the election? And how much do you dislike him now? I only ask because it seems to me that on an outrage scale of 1-10 you guys started out at about 9.5 and have worked your way up to 9.9 over the past year.

What are you going to do during the next 3-7 years? Blame him for the Holocaust (because in addition to being a Muslim he's also a secret time traveler)? Claim that he's the cause of all the tooth decay in the world? Oh I know, start a rumor that every night right before he goes to bed he enjoys a tall cool glass of blood squeezed from the bodies of defenseless Jewish babies.

Sounds a bit outrageous, doesn't it? But that's where you all are headed because he can only actually be so incredibly evil until he becomes a parody of a Bond villain and you become a parody of tin foil hat wearing crazies screaming about fluoride in the water supply, how we never landed on the moon and that 9/11 was an inside job by the Bush administration (granted, your own apparent partisanship probably won't let you trash Bush like that but you get my point).

If you think Obama is making this country less safe then fine, that's your opinion and you're welcome to it but if that opinion also includes the claim that he hates America, wants to take away all of your money and guns and likes to give terrorists reach around hand jobs then you'll excuse me if I don't take you too seriously.

Happy New Year to you, Professor Douglas and everyone else here at American Power.
