Great post, Donald! :-)
I discussed the issue of carrying a passport on a daily basis, with one of my Danish colleagues, when I worked in Brussels.
He's also a security specialist and his father served many years as a NATO general.
In the early '80s I also worked myself for five years at the legal department of the Stockholm police district with passport issues.
Anyway, we agreed that you always should carry your passport on you.
I never leave home without my passport in my pocket, and most Scandinavians act in the same way, especially when abroad.
I don't think it's too much to ask to have people carrying their passports on them.
The passport might be your most important and valuable document.
When entering a public building, shopping mall, public transportation or private company, you present your passport.
With that system you won't need all those thousands of expensive border guards.
Passport checks at stadiums at big sport events is also very efficient in catching dangerous hooligans.
I wish you a fabulous day, Donald!
