The odd part is that Dems see themselves as centrist. Maybe they are, but like the "peaceful" muslims, they make themselves irrelevant by their silence. Dems have run amok in this country for years and the rank and file do NOTHING.
A lot of us left the democrat party for that and several other reasons. The last thing that the Democrat party is is democratic. Why do you think so many people are becoming Independents? It is now the Independents that hold the key to power.
It is the same with being a liberal, in the classic sense. Neo-conservatism has grown as liberalism has been corrupted by the Left. Much of the 60's generation that went into academe pushed everything to the right so that they would seem middle of the road.
