The sad part here is that most Americans get a very poor education, especially in American History, and an even poorer education in World History. One wonders why it never occurred to students why the root word for slavery is Slav and that the Slavs were Caucasian.
Why does it not occur to the student that someone had to capture and sell slaves and in most cases this was other Blacks and Arabs. In fact if one looks at the history of most slaves that came to the Americas from Africa one will find very few coastal blacks in the mix. Most were from the inner reaches of Africa. Does make one wonder who was doing what to whom?
Thomas Sowell has a couple of books that delve into this history. Actually all of his books have been well written and well researched.
Most Americans would do themselves a real service if after delving into the real history of this country they study the history of Arabs and the Islamic influences on the world. What is the Diaspora and why did it happen? History is not what one has been led to believe in most educational institutions, especially universities after the 60s generation took over these institutions and started giving themselves and their fellow travelers advanced degrees. A subject for another time. Suffice it to say freedom requires one to understand history, not only ours, but that of other countries. Otherwise one begins to ask how did we accomplish and provide so many things of merit and be a nation of bad people?
