'I Just Wanted to Tell You How Much I Enjoyed Your Class Last Semester'

I always chuckle a little when I receive the wonderful emails from students thanking me for my instruction and leadership at the college. The progressives can't stand my teaching excellence. They've long attacked me as unworthy of the classroom (Kevin Robbins being the most despicable), and they've viciously ridiculed the community colleges as "shitty" Podunk academic graveyards --- thereby cruelly demeaning the less advantaged students who are the majority constituency of the two-year college communities.

In any case, this was in my in-box on Sunday night. It's from a student who's a little older. He's returning to college to finish his education after being in the work force for a number of years

Dr. D.,

I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your class last semester.  I really liked the way you engaged the young people in the class with current events and got them to discuss their views.  Your class was a lot of work, but well worth it in the end.  I hope you and your family had a fantastic holiday break and that all is well.

Have a good spring semester Dr. D!

Sincerely,

BONUS FLASHBACK: "Professor Douglas!!! I have never been so excited to come to class as I was this semester! You are a tremendous leader and a Class-A example of looking at both sides of stories. Thank you for your passion for teaching."

Congratulations on being a successful teacher that grabs the interests of students and actually TEACHES them something worthwhile!

There are so many times when the only feedback anyone gets from his job is when he fouled up; it's always good to get something positive back.
