Aboard the Nuclear-Powered Aircraft Carrier USS Nimitz
When I was doing research for an R&D outfit I worked for I had occasion to be on carriers. On one trip I was helicoptered out to the USS Independence from Rota, Spain where I spent a week doing further research. Rode it back to just outside of Charleston, SC where I was helicoptered over to another ship to go to port. It is a real education to watch these fine representatives of the military work. Take offs and landings were interesting to watch. Even more so when they first go to sea after sometime in port. Not a few have to do "touch and goes" to reacquaint themselves. A real thrill is watching night OPS. Real professionals and this country could not be protected by better people.
