At LAT, "Dodgers do heavy damage in 13-4 win over Cardinals":
ST. LOUIS — Fans were still finding their seats when St. Louis Cardinals rookie Shelby Miller threw the second pitch of the game to the Dodgers' Carl Crawford on Wednesday night.RTWT.
Crawford hit a line drive directly at Miller, striking the right-hander's throwing elbow as the Busch Stadium crowd let out a gasp.
"I honestly thought he broke his arm, I've never seen a ball hit that flush on an elbow," the Dodgers' Skip Schumaker said.
The ball hit Miller with such force that it caromed off the pitcher and flew into shallow left field, enabling Crawford to reach second base with a double.
Miller was led off the field, and an inning later the Cardinals called on veteran Jake Westbrook, their scheduled starting pitcher for Thursday.
The Dodgers then jumped all over Westbrook with six runs in the second inning on their way to a 13-4 win, their sixth victory in the last seven games.
The Dodgers had a season-high 18 hits, including four by Crawford, and Schumaker and Andre Ethier each had four runs batted in.
