Abortion Gift Certificates

Nothing like the convenience of an abortion gift card for today's sexually-active postmodern women on the go!

Planned Parenthood of Indiana is offering
holiday gift certificates in $25, $50, $75, and $100 denominations. Andrew Malcolm has the details:

Here's an original holiday gift idea to help the person who may have everything, including a little something they don't really want. A new way to mark the festive yearend celebration of life -- a gift certificate for an abortion.

This year, for the first time, Planned Parenthood of Indiana is offering holiday gift certificates for that certain someone in your life who may want a breast exam, a pap smear or perhaps not want another life in their life.

Calling them an "unusual yet practical gift this holiday season," the organization is selling gift certificates in $25 denominations, redeemable at any of the group's 35 statewide locations for their services, including health screenings, birth control and abortion services.

A Planned Parenthood website page notes that a standard women's health exam costs $58 while abortions in the first trimester can run from $350 to $900.

There's even an online page to order the certificates if you know someone in Indiana who desires such services.

According to Ms. magazine, an official of the Hoosier Planned Parenthood group explained:

"People are making really tough decisions about putting gas in their car and food on their table, so we know that many women especially put healthcare at their bottom of their list to do."

The official explained the group offers a range of services that can be purchased with the gift cards including pap smears, breast exams, birth control prescriptions and abortions. The organization performs about 5,000 abortions a year, according to one published figure, out of 92,000 patients treated.

There's more at the link, but this passage says it all:

"Christmas," said Jim Sedlak of the American Life League, "perhaps more than any other time of the year, is dedicated to the miracle of life and divine love." He said the gift cards "would be more accurately described as death certificates."

  1. That's one gift certificate I don't mind seeing "Holiday" rather than "Christmas" on. Selling death for Christmas.

  2. What a heartwarming gift for the holidays. Sedlack is right, it should be death certificates. Shameful.

  3. Donald..I am sitting here, feeling physically ill, because after reading your post, I did a little research and found that Planned Parenthood is supported by United Way in my area.

Not only that, but "Lesbian Gay Bi Trans Pride. ... The Institute is generously supported by United Way".. I copied and pasted that from information I found on here.

That is, also, talking about an organization in my area.

I am sick, because my husband has a rather large deduction taken from his pay for United Way, and has for several years.

Needless to say, that is going to come to a screeching halt, as of tomorrow.

I think anyone who contributes to United Way should think twice before doing so, if they don't want to aid and abet the very thing they find abominable.

  4. Like I said to Shoprat, LOT, all of this is just awful.

  5. I had no idea about United Way, Jan.

But just the fact that abortion services are made so commercial and convenient is heart-rending. And it's all so casual to the pro-choice folks.

    Shameful ...

  6. I just want to make sure I have this right.

Based on the numbers you cite, about 5% of Indiana Planned Parenthood's clients access abortion services.

That leaves 95% who use non-abortion services like birth control, health screenings, pap smears, etc.

If those numbers hold true for use of the certificates, about 95% of the dough would be going for good things--including the kind of birth control that might actually prevent the unwanted pregnancies that too often end in abortion.

Wouldn't that mean that there's a decent chance that handing out the gifts might actually result in a net decrease in abortions? It could at least level out, right?

I tend to imagine that the actual use figures will slant away from abortion services, anyway. I'd guess that very few, if any, recipients will be using them to fund abortions. It seems more likely that they'll be used for the other stuff, don't you think?

Oh, don't worry. I get it. It's the principle of the whole thing. And on that front, you can get a lot of traction.

But Sedlack's "death certificate" comment and your "Abortion Gift Certificates" headline border on a kind of crazed intellectual dishonesty that does more to marginalize pro-life efforts than it does to help them.

  7. Let's get real, people! How many people are ACTUALLY going to give a gift certificate for an abortion!!! That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard... BUT, I know of many young women in my neighborhood who can't afford a doctor's visit, much less lab work required for a PAP TEST. How can you say that's a "certificate of death" when it may SAVE A YOUNG WOMAN ((MOM'S )) LIFE by finding out early she has pre-cancerous cells??

  8. I would give some one a gift certificate for abortion. I don't see what the big deal is.

Honestly, if I was a female I would probably never have an abortion, but that does not change the fact that I, or anyone else, has the right to tell some one else NOT to have one. I completely and utterly agree with abortions.

I know four woman who have been raped, two of which have gotten pregnant from it and had abortions. Can you honestly tell me they were in the wrong?

Don't agree with abortions? Don't get one. Period.

  9. First of all, even us "pro-choice" people find this reprehensible. I'm all for the gift cards to be used for contraceptives but the blatant promotion of abortions is sickening.

  10. Oh yea that's a great gift isn't it? I was doing a reasearch on abortion for my college Engllish class and I came across this shit!! I can't believe it! It makes me sick!!!! And yes it is selling death for Christmas! Has'nt anyone seen the abortion video??? If you do see it and are not imapcted by it at all you have no heart!

  11. Surely nobody would ever use these for birth control. No. That would be impossible. Let's all assume they're for abortions.

  12. "First of all, even us "pro-choice" people find this reprehensible."

That's correct, but true pro-choice individuals don't care about things like this that are clearly beneficial. :) "Pro-choice" people can go eat a dick.

Also - Jan - you could at least *try* to not sound like a willingly ignorant idiot when you post.

  15. I am posting this because whoever reads will understand the meaning of life, and also I’m upset with this situation. In the beginning God created the earth..From the ground He gave life to Adam. With just the blowing from His breath He can give life and take it away. Isn’t nobody knows that we are not the owners of this world and that we have someone who by His breath can just take us away from this earth? Humans think that they own everything and that earth belongs to them. Prepare for the wrath of God all of you that thinks they are God, false prophets!!! This is an abomination to God!!! Did you not know that you are here today and tomorrow...who knows? REPENT!!!...What a joke, nobody respects God anymore that's why this nation is going bad with the economy and other things...remember God is Love, but he also our Father, and the only who can judge us by our actions. He can’t just take so, much!!!
