Update 2:10 p.m. The Associated Press reports on Wednesday’s clashes:

Protesters and riot police clashed in the streets around Iran’s parliament Wednesday as hundreds of people converged on a Tehran square in defiance of government orders to halt demonstrations demanding a new presidential election, witnesses said.

Security forces appeared to vastly outnumber the demonstrators, and they beat protesters gathered on Baharestan Square with batons and fired tear gas canisters and rounds of ammunition into the air, witnesses told The Associated Press. They said some demonstrators fought back while others fled to another Tehran plaza, Sepah Square, about a mile (2 kilometers) to the north.

A helicopter could be seen hovering over central Tehran, where a witness told the AP that the area was swarming with hundreds of riot police who were trying to prevent people from gathering even briefly. Thousands more security officers filled the surrounding streets, said the witness, who declined to give his name for fear of government reprisals.

  1. Thank you so much for these clips, Dr. Douglas.

The sniper attacks looked very genuine to me and lady's appeal, sincere.

Protestors do not have the firepower to stop a brutal regime willing to massacre its own people. There would need to be a shift in the top levels of the government. The sad truth is that the Revolutionary Guards are solid supporters of the Ahmadinejad. Mousavi has no military capability.

I don’t see us capable of assisting with Obama and current congress. Ahmadinejad’s term will bring the nuclear answer to our questions. That time of reckoning is coming. Then, whoever is president at the time is going to have to act quickly, regardless of Democratic or Republican ideologues.

  2. So, let me get this straight, you are using your educated aggression management background to suggest you could keep Iranians SAFE! Is this a business opportunity for you? This is a potential revolution. Who do you think you are that you and your anger/aggression management can protect freedom fighters from snipers on buildings, Revolutionary guards and regime thugs? You sound like an opportunist from hell. Or, are you trying to be funny? This is serious, involving the youth and families of Iranians hungry for freedom and a future and it does not call for aggressive management.

  5. "The sniper attacks looked very genuine to me"

LOL, WTF? The sniper attacks you didn't see looked very real did they?

Meanwhile, have none of you ever heard a gunshot before? Got any idea how many *feet* away that "sniper" was, whose shots had absolutely no indimidating effect on the crowd.

  6. Why the hostility, Cam? I'm not in criminal justice, it was simply an observation. It amazes me how the left just love to attack without any real position.

Let's say you’re right, and I am just so laughingly wrong - it is quite possible that the shots were more local - that still leaves a dying young man on the ground.

So, in your view is all this protesting for freedoms just faked on twitter, and just so much theater for you? Instead of meaningless, invectives arrogantly directed at my passing comments, why not make a point so someone knows your superior brand of wisdom?
