Benjamin Netanyahu: 'What a Mockery of the Charter of the United Nations'

At Fox News, "Netanyahu Condemns U.N. for Allowing Ahmadinejad to Deliver Address":

Holding aloft evidence of Hitler's Final Solution, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday railed against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for his denial of the Holocaust and scolded the United Nations for allowing Ahmadinejad to speak during its opening session of the 64th U.N. General Assembly.

With detailed reminders in hand of the war that sent 6 million Jews to their deaths in concentration camps, including construction blueprints for Auschwitz, Netanyahu took his turn at the dais to recall the agreement within the world body to create the Jewish state and express astonishment at what he witnessed a day earlier in that organization's great hall.

He commended those who boycotted Ahmadinejad's speech, but condemned those who allowed it.

"To those who gave this Holocaust denier a hearing, I say on behalf of my people. ... Have you no shame? Have you no decency?" Netanyahu said.

Netanyahu also scolded the United Nations for giving the Iranian president "legitimacy" just six decades after the Holocaust. Ahmadinejad addressed the body Wednesday, and in the run-up to the session repeated his belief that the Holocaust is a myth.

"What a disgrace," Netanyahu said. "What a mockery of the charter of the United Nations."

Netanyahu challenged the international community to step up and prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons, but expressed broad disappointment with the United Nations.
The Wall Street Journal's story features a picture of Netanyahu hold aloft Nazi documents during the speech. See, "Netanyahu Blasts Ahmadinejad at U.N." And Haaretz, "Netanyahu Slams UN, Challenges It to Confront Iran." (via Memeorandum).

Also, Jennifer Rubin, "A Speech for the Ages" (via Memeorandum):

If the president’s speech was one of the more embarrassing and shameful displays by a U.S. President before the UN, then today brought a reminder of the power of moral clarity. Bibi Netanyahu delivered a scathing condemnation of those who sat and listened to Holocaust denier Ahmadinejad.

Have you no decency?' 'What a disgrace!'."

  1. Hey Donald, did you know that the Persian state/empire has been around a lot longer than you'd like?

And you know what? The last time I checked, they haven't invaded any foreign country unless it was out of provocation/self-defense, in quite sometime.

Now, if we could only say the same about this so called state of Israel..............

Don't let the facts come and bite you in the ass big guy.

    Keep on chirping.

  2. Yup, Netanyhahu is a profile in courage, wheras Obama is a profile in cowardice.

Bibi calls it like it is, and Obama lives in a child-like fantasy world.

Looking at the previous comment, Rex lives in that fantasy world too

  3. That would be a real surprise to the Greeks, Iraqis, et al. I wonder what Xerxes would think and where the Battle at Thermopylae was fought?

  4. Rex,

Hmm. So Persia, since they are so ancient and honorable, and have never attacked anyone unless provoked, has a leader that spews forth his hatred of Israel and the call for their destruction.

Is he exercising some kind of unspoken moral authority because he's the leader of Persia, or is he just a maniac?

So-called state of Israel? Rex, El Elohe Israel, and don't you ever forget that.

  5. Rex: Okay, that's your 1 minute of fame on my site. Since you're clearly an Israel-basher who refuses to engage the arguments Netanyahu put forward, that's all you'll get here.

    Anti-Semites not welcome bud.

  6. What an incredible speech by Netanyahu. Forceful, compelling, and optimistic. The exact opposite of Obama's speech.

  7. I echo Tom on this one, Donald: what a shame that our president doesn't have the courage to point out the utter moral failings of the United Nations. The recent report issued by their Human Rights Commission which blamed Israel for defending itself against indiscriminate missiles fired from Gaza is a perfect case-in-point. Israel has no right of self-defense, but it is ok for Hamas to use women and children as shields and to store weapons in schools and hospitals. What an utter joke.

The U.S. president should not step foot in the UN until they stop their anti-Semitism and stop giving legitimacy to racist dictators.

Israel can, fortunately, defend itself -- and will pull our chestnuts out of the proverbial fire when they take out Iran's nuclear capabilities. And what is Barack Obama doing? Returning us to the peacnik movement of the 1980s and nuclear disarmament -- as if that will make us any safer.

    Total nightmare.

  8. Next to Bibi, Obama looks and sounds like a pussy.

If George S. Patton, Jr. were alive today, he would say the exact same thing.

As for you, Rex, better hope the Israelis are able to destroy Iran's nuke program in its entirety, else you are going to see a war you aren't going to believe.

  9. "Anti-Semites not welcome bud."

Isn't it ironic that just after you post this comment you have an essay with a cartoon that mocks people for shouting "racism" when they don't have a coherent argument to make?

Now, if you could only please quote my anti-semitism so that we are clear about my anti-semitic tendencies, I'd like to stand corrected.

    Cheers

P.S - Pelican, I don't know about you but I'd rather see people talking tough than using f-16 fighter jets to indiscriminately bomb the most dense civilian areas in the world and then claim "collateral damage".

You know , in international human rights forums, one of the fundamental principles of human decency is that of reciprocity. If you are willing to apply the same principles to both the STate of Israel and the Iranian regime, you might have a case.

Speaking of which, Donald, I am guessing there are a few self-hating Jews in academia, because they have nothing but criticism for the state of Israel.

Darn self-hating anti-semitics they must be?

  10. "...I'd rather see people talking tough than using f-16 fighter jets to indiscriminately bomb the most dense civilian areas in the world and then claim "collateral damage"."

That's and easy thing for you to say, Rex, as your ass isn't going to be the one that hits 10,000 Degrees F when an Iranian nuke detonates over your head.

Can't say the same for the people in Tel Aviv.

  11. Rex: Based on what you've written, I have absolutely no interest in debating you. You are not welcome here. Go away.
