Brownshirts

Technically, it's Sturmabteilung, which is the German name for the SA, the Nazi Party stormtroopers that helped leverage Hitler to power in the 1920s and 1930s.

"Brownshirts" is the left's latest fad terminology to slur tea partiers are Nazis. Scotty Lemieux has been having a blast pretending to know a little history, and now here's Chris Matthews:
I gotta wonder when people are going to start wearing uniforms…I mean it isn’t far from what we saw in the thirties, where all of a sudden, political parties started showing up in uniform.

Chris Cillizza was dead on about htis, the behaviour was completely unacceptable and the idiot who was violent should have to pay the consequences in both criminal and civil courts.

But to say this behaviour is inherently "right wing" or "left wing" is idiotic. When I was involved with the Liberal party many years ago, I was at an event where a Liberal activist physically attacked a Conservative protester who showed up with a protest sign and shouted slogans against the then Liberal leader.

This is about idiots who get involved in politics and they unfortunately exist throughout the entire political spectrum.

Nice to see Matthews in characteristically smug form telling Cillizza he doesn't understand the "nuance" of right wing politics. I don't think "nuance" is a word Matthews fully understands.
