California Scrambles to Deal with Effects of Proposition 47

Hey, get ready for convicted armed robbers, crack dealers, meth heads and drug addicts, fencers and forgers, and "petty" thieves to be released onto the streets!

Yes, by all means give these people another chance and save the taxpayers money. And make progressives feel good about themselves!

Meanwhile, load up on ammunition and barricade the entryways. Shit's gonna get real mofo.

At LAT, "Prop. 47 jolts landscape of California justice system."

Why Do We Assume That Asylum Seekers Have a Right to Resettlement in a First World Country?

"We" don't.

The left turns everything into a RACE and SOCIAL JUSTICE issue because our system is driven by all politics all the time, and the left's motivations are never based on humanitarianism but raw political power.

Arizona 2-Hour Execution Rekindles Debate on Death Penalty

A federal judge argued this week to bring back the firing squad, and that's where the debate should be going --- toward functionally more humane executions.

And here's the Wall Street Journal, "Lengthy Arizona Execution Heightens Lethal-Injection Questions: Condemned Man Dies Two Hours After Drugs Were Administered."

And video at KNXV-TV ABC15 Phoenix , "Arizona inmate dies 2 hours after execution began," and "Reaction from latest Arizona execution."

Additional Responses to 'Cowardly #ANSWER Communists'

I posted some initial responses here.

I've been contacted by followers on Twitter who thanked me for being a "true American patriot," and for standing up against the communist thugs.

I especially love this tweet from Robert Stacy McCain:

I'll have more blogging later today.

VIDEO: Anarchists, Communists Attack 'American Power' at Anaheim #ANSWER Protest: 'He's an Agitator!'

"He's an agitator! That's just what he does. He's just going to cause a problem."

Watch the clip starting at 24:45 minutes. As noted, I was surrounded by dozens of anarchists, communists, dirty hippies, and meth-heads. Look at this retinue of human waste. Note especially the dirtbag with the obligatory upside down American flag. And of course notice at all the cameras being stuffed in my face. My response all day was "This is a public park. You have no right to stop me from participating in this protest." But with no police presence on the ground, thuggery was the order of the day. My phone was stolen from my hands at total of three times (I forgot to mention previously that the dirty tie-died hippie also assaulted me, stealing my phone and throwing it to the grass. Recall I had to retrieve my phone out of the street and from over a 10-foot brick wall as well.)

And forget the lies at the clip. I wasn't agitating anything, other than trying to take a few photos and Vines for my blog. What you're seeing is the mob siege that took over once the ANSWER communists realized who I was. This went on for probably half an hour at least, as I tried to move toward the main speakers, including Genevieve Huizar, the mother of dead gang-banger Manny Diaz, who in 2012 Anaheim police saw brandishing a weapon before being shot while fleeing the scene.

Robert Stacy McCain has the roundup of my earlier posts, "Commies in Anaheim?"

I'm surprised I haven't yet seen more videos of the mob attack. The reality is that the anarcho-communists were in my face, trying to intimidate and provoke me into violence, which then would have been captured on video as "proof" that I was a violent right-wing extremist. To their endless dismay, I was classically peaceful and composed, while being shut-down by criminal thugs in the typical fashion of leftist brownshirt totalitarianism.

Hey, Leftists: You're Gonna Need a Bigger Collectivist Army to Shut Down 'American Power'!

I had cameras in my face pretty much all day yesterday, all except those couple of times that leftists stole my phone.

At times I was surrounded by literally dozens of these smelly bastards, but it's gonna take far larger leftist brigades to keep "American Power" down:

And Darleen Click notes the key point that ANSWER's leftist thugs are not talking about, from the comments on yesterday's report:
Were there no cops there? Forcefully grabbing your phone and throwing it away is assault plus theft (and if the phone is over $400 it is a felony).

They want to stop gang injunctions? Nothing like handing over the public streets to criminals there.
No, there weren't any cops at the Stoddard Park rally, although there were loads of police at the march on Disneyland. I would have finished the march had I not been detoured by ANSWER's cowardly violence. These Stalinist goons simply will not tolerate conservative media reporting the truth on their "KKKOP killer" protests.

VIDEO: CBS Los Angeles Covers #Anaheim Police Brutality March, Ignores Anarcho-Communist Infiltration

As long as the local media refuses to report accurately on these protesters, I'll be out there providing on-the-ground reports of the disgusting "anarcho-communist "freakazoids" who are the central organizers of these events.

Here's yesterday's report, "Cowardly #ANSWER Communists Violently Harass 'American Power' at Anaheim Police Brutality Protest!"

And here's the report at CBS News Los Angeles. Reporter Art Barron ignored the radical, anarcho-communist protesters, many of whom wore shirts and held signs calling for death to the Anaheim Police Department. Even worse, the back bloc anarchists are shown at the video without even a 10-second description or explanation of the real and violent ideological program.

I'll have more Anaheim coverage throughout the day.

Cowardly #ANSWER Communists Violently Harass 'American Power' at Anaheim Police Brutality Protest!

ANSWER Los Angeles held a rally and protest march against police brutality in Anaheim today, "Anaheim: July 19 March to End Police Terror."

The event was an anniversary follow-up to their city hall protest last July, "STAY IN THE STREETS! FROM THE RACIST POLICE TO THE RACIST 'JUSTICE' SYSTEM - STOP THE WAR ON BLACK & BROWN YOUTH!"

I covered last year's protest and blogged it, "Communists March Against Police Brutality in Anaheim!," and "Communists Protest Police Brutality in Anaheim — #JusticeForTrayvon."

So I was in Anaheim this morning to cover the anti-amnesty protests on Ball Road at the 57 Fwy, and I swung over to Stoddard Park, near Disneyland, to take a few photos and Vines at ANSWER's protest. I was unable to take as many as I would have liked. "Cassandra" and "Jordyan, who were out to the Murrieta Border Station protest a couple of weeks ago, sicced their La Raza racists and communist thugs on me, and I was dealing with that all day. (ICYMI, I blogged socialist slutbags "Cassandra" and "Jordyan" here: "#Murrieta Protesters @CassandraRules and @BeautifulChaosJ Spew Lies and Hatred, Not 'Civility'."

I asked "Jordyan" why she said she wasn't a leftist when I spoke to her in Murrieta? I continued, "You're here with the ANSWER communists? That's about as far left as you can get." She raised her hand to my face, ran off, and refused to correct her lies. That's always --- always! --- the way it is with leftists. They'll lie about their true ideological program, because they know they'll be repudiated by regular, patriotic Americans.

Here's "Cassandra" with communist loser "Iraq combat veteran" Michael Pryser:

Prysner's a coward. He served in Iraq as a grounds surveillance technician, and word is he saw no combat, and since then has allegedly misrepresented his war record and trumped up the military heroism of other soldiers as his own.

He obviously doesn't like being called out on it, which is why he tried to shut down my participation at a public rally by seizing my iPhone and throwing it in the street. Pretty typical for an intolerant leftist scumbag. These idiots simply cannot stand to have their activism and ideology exposed to the real light of public opinion and opprobrium. This Ain't Hell just destroys lying loser Prysner here, "Michael Prysner: true communist hero."

I ran out into the street to retrieve my phone, which was still in good working condition, amazingly. At the Vine below is mental midget and dead-end ANSWER stooge Douglas Kauffman. Next to him is the mother of Manuel Diaz. I gather her son was killed by Anaheim PD and she was one of the event's sponsors. Actually, I was not "antagonizing" anyone. I would have loved to hear her memorial to her son, but the commie stooges were blocking and tripping me as I tried to move over to listen to the speakers. She came up to me twice during the day, asking me to leave. I told her it was a public park and I just wanted to take some pictures and I'd be gone. She didn't like that idea and called me a "disruptive force."

All of the anarcho-idiots who got in my face to video refused to show their faces. I couldn't take photos or Vines, as I was surrounded by thugs who covered my iPhone. Cowards. Stupid, intolerant, childish cowards:

Honestly, this dude needed to go toke a few more fat ones. Couldn't get him out of my face. He smoked cigarettes continuously, of course blowing the smoke in my face. I couldn't wait to get home to shower. These people are no better than the diseased aliens coming over the border. A dirty hippie if there ever was one, and obviously a cartoon caricature who's actually a stooge:

Notice all the black bloc anarchists at the photos:

>

I repeatedly told this stooge he wasn't intimidating at all. He was a coward who wouldn't show his face. They're all teeny-tiny little losers who refuse to stand up for what the believe and be counted. They all hide behind "V for Vendetta" masks and black-bloc balaclavas. It'd be funny, although they were extremely annoying, since it was impossible to get around to take more photos. And notice the Aztlán open-borders Brownshirts as well. ANSWER's been in longtime coordination with them, the racist freaks.

Folks might remember that Victoria Taft photographed the chunky bitch getting in my face in Murrieta. She stayed back today, and I was barely able to take this photo. Pretty funny, lol:

I stepped away for about a half-hour or so to tweet the photos I'd taken, and when I was getting ready to go, the protest march began, so I decided to take a couple of Vines:

It's actually pretty hard to tweet in the broad daylight, and I was trying to keep up with the march as I was taking Vines. After the march turned from 9th Street onto Katella (a couple of blocks north of Disneyland), I ran up ahead for a better position. "Cassandra" and "Jordyan" thought their thugs had driven me away, lol! I love how "Jordyan" scurries like a rat up onto the sidewalk, and covers her face like the embarrassed liar she is:

You'll notice, though, that I sent this Vine after I retrieved my phone from over that big brick wall seen at the Vine. I was about to send it when one of the Aztlán goons --- who came running from behind as I was working the keypad --- grabbed the phone out of my hand. I ran forward as he kept running and grabbed him by the shirt. Just then he chucked the phone over the brick wall into one of the backyards abutting Katella Avenue. I should have known. My bad. This was the second time these fascists grabbed my device and threw it. Only this time I had to scale the damned wall, which wasn't easy. I scratched my arm on my first attempt. After I found my phone I walked back to my Odyssey and took a photo of the scratches. All in day's work, I guess:

I've been reporting on ANSWER Los Angeles for years now and these losers are obviously not pleased by the coverage. Normally, though, ANSWER protests are monitored by huge police contingents. These thugs would never be able to block my participation, at times violently, if police had been on hand. So, chalk it up as a lesson. Only cover these losers at events where police will be on the ground. Frankly, I was being assaulted and prevented from exercising my free speech rights at a public protest. It's not something I'd do if the shoe was on the other foot. I'd never physically assault and harass a leftist wanting to cover an anti-immigration rally, for example, because I'm not ashamed of what I'm doing and I'm not ashamed of the message that all-American patriots convey at our events. The same cannot be said for the ANSWER communists. They're paranoid and conspiratorial. Remember, these are people who call each other "comrade" at their organizing meetings, like genuine Marxist cadres (which is good for a laugh, seriously).

Mostly, though, these are simply not good people. They have no respect for the rights of others, which belies all the "civility" bullshit they spew, and all the "social justice" crap they're always yammering about. The L.A. ANSWER goons are career protesters with dead-end futures, shaking down the mindless left-wing rubes for the donations that keep this racket going. Unfortunately, the mainstream press routinely gives these freaks positive, credible media, which has the sad result of providing legitimacy for a far-left movement that is so communist they backed Moscow when it crushed the Prague Spring democracy movement in 1968. That's who we're talking about here. Not "progressive" activists but Che-wannabe murderers who would slit your mother's throat if she were to say one word in opposition. F-k these losers. The don't intimidate me. And they can expect lots more coverage like this going forward.

Cooper Harris, 22-Month-Old Baby in #HotCarDeath, Had 'Scratches' on Face, 'Abrasions' to Back of Head

Well, CNN had on the whole probable cause bond hearing for Ross Harris today. The case will be going to trial. See the Marietta Daily Journal, "Judge rules there is probable cause for trial; no bond for father."

Just the fact of the alleged premeditated murder of the boy, Cooper, who died of hyperthermia, is horrible enough. But at the hearing the detective testified to as many of six graphic "sext" messages sent by the defendant, including that of an erect penis. Harris had also received images of women's breasts. So it's salacious and depraved, as all this sexting was going on as the baby was boiling to death outside in the car. Jane Velez-Mitchell was on a CNN panel earlier and she was just horrified, noting especially how the child was obviously thrashing violently in an effort to release himself from the seat-belt, scratching his face and causing lacerations to his head. I don't see video for that, but here's a live-blog transcript at HLN, "Cop: Dad sexted while child died in hot car":
2:09 p.m. ET: Stoddard said several injuries were found on the toddler’s body:
“Marks on the child’s face. It would have come from the child or a scratch being made while the child was alive and then not healing or scabbing over or anything after that, soon after he passed away.” There were also abrasions to the back of the boy’s head, according to Stoddard.

During the day, Harris was having conversations with up to six different women, according to Stoddard, who said explicit photos were being exchanged.

“We’ve only scratched the surface,” said Stoddard in regards to the searches done on Harris’ computers.
Some video of the detective's testimony, "Detective: 'We've only scratched the surface'."

And watch Nancy Grace's segment pre-hearing, laying out her theory of likely developments in the case. She pretty much nailed it:

San Diego Gangbanger David Riley at Center of Supreme Court's Smartphone Privacy Ruling — #4a

Look, even the bad mofos have rights, although the decision's not likely to help this f-ker Riley.

At the Los Angeles Times, "San Diego gang member's case focus of Supreme Court privacy ruling":
When David Riley, a 19-year-old member of San Diego's Lincoln Park gang, was arrested in August 2009 on suspicion of shooting at a rival gang member, it received little or no public notice.

The same was true when Riley's first trial ended in a hung jury, and when he was convicted at a second trial of attempted murder and other charges, and sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.

But now Riley's name has assumed national legal prominence as one of two cases that led to Wednesday's U.S. Supreme Court decision that extended privacy rights to cellphones, a sweeping ruling for the digital age when information about a person's entire life can be stored in a mobile device.

"We got everything we wanted," said Stanford law professor Jeffrey Fisher, who was part of the team that argued the case at the U.S. Supreme Court.

The court ruled 9 to 0 that police acted improperly when they seized Riley's smartphone without a warrant and discovered evidence used at his trial linking him to the gang and the shooting.

The decision does not free Riley from prison, but it could allow his attorneys to seek a new trial on grounds that the original trial was "tainted" because of the phone information, Fisher said.

In upholding Riley's conviction in 2013, a California appeals court said that cellular phone information was akin to things pulled out of a defendant's pocket during a post-arrest search and thus did not merit special protection.

Legal analysts said Wednesday's ruling would clearly apply to defendants whose cases are still pending in the courts, but may not help those, like Riley, whose convictions are already final.

"There probably will be a good deal of litigation over whether this decision can be applied retroactively," said Dennis Riordan, an appellate criminal defense lawyer based in San Francisco.

Charles M. Sevilla, a San Diego appellate criminal defense lawyer, said those defendants whose convictions are final will face "an uphill battle" in trying to persuade courts to reexamine their cases.

But the complications are unlikely to stop lawyers from trying...

Supreme Court Rejects Warrantless Cellphone Searches — #4a

We watched Damon Root's Reason TV discussion of this case in my classes last semester. I knew the Court would overturn the convictions as violations of the Fourth Amendment.

And now at the New York Times, "Major Ruling Shields Privacy of Cellphones: Supreme Court Says Phones Can’t Be Searched Without a Warrant":
WASHINGTON — In a sweeping victory for privacy rights in the digital age, the Supreme Court on Wednesday unanimously ruled that the police need warrants to search the cellphones of people they arrest.

While the decision will offer protection to the 12 million people arrested every year, many for minor crimes, its impact will most likely be much broader. The ruling almost certainly also applies to searches of tablet and laptop computers, and its reasoning may apply to searches of homes and businesses and of information held by third parties like phone companies.

“This is a bold opinion,” said Orin S. Kerr, a law professor at George Washington University. “It is the first computer-search case, and it says we are in a new digital age. You can’t apply the old rules anymore.”

Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., writing for the court, was keenly alert to the central role that cellphones play in contemporary life. They are, he said, “such a pervasive and insistent part of daily life that the proverbial visitor from Mars might conclude they were an important feature of human anatomy.”

But he added that old principles required that their contents be protected from routine searches. One of the driving forces behind the American Revolution, Chief Justice Roberts wrote, was revulsion against “general warrants,” which “allowed British officers to rummage through homes in an unrestrained search for evidence of criminal activity.”

“The fact that technology now allows an individual to carry such information in his hand,” the chief justice wrote, “does not make the information any less worthy of the protection for which the founders fought.”

Britain's 'Skull Cracker' Released on Prison Furlough, Somehow Fails to Return, Prompting 'Full Review' of Prison System

Leftists never learn.

It's all about "compassion" and "being better" than those who've committed heinous crimes.

F-king asshats. How bloody stupid can you be?

At Telegraph UK, "'Skull Cracker' on the run prompts review of 'lax' prison system":
Escape of violent armed robber nicknamed the Skull Cracker prompts review of the prison system after Michael Wheatley fails to return from temporary release.

The decision to free a violent criminal nicknamed the Skull Cracker on day release will be reviewed amid ministers’ fears over a “lax” prison system.

Michael Wheatley, an armed robber who beat several of his victims, is still on the run.

Wheatley, 55, who was given 13 life sentences at the Old Bailey in 2002, did not return to HMP Standford Hill open prison on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent, after he was allowed out on Saturday.

Wheatley raided 13 building societies and banks over 10 months in 2001 and 2002 while on parole from a previous 27-year sentence for other robberies.

He earned his nickname after pistol-whipping victims during the raids.

Jeremy Wright, the prisons minister, said there will be a “full review” of the case, looking at the decision to grant Wheatley temporary licence to leave prison.

The case raises concerns about the way day-release schemes have been operating, he said.

"We are not prepared to see public safety compromised, the system has been too lax up to now and we are changing that,” he said.
In future when prisoners are let out on temporary licence they will be tagged, subject to tougher risk assessments and tested in the community under strict conditions before being released.

"Temporary release can be an important tool in helping offenders reintegrate but it should not be an automatic right,” he said.
Yes, "help them integrate," because compassion!

Screw "public safety," the "skull cracker" has rights omg! Reintegrating offenders is job one!

'Can't bring myself to feel sorry over the botched execution of a guy who shot a woman and buried her alive after he raped her friend...'

Comment from Dana Loesch, on Facebook.

And that made me realize, after my earlier entry, "Clayton Lockett Botched Execution," that I never did find out about the guy Lockett's conviction.

Here's what I found online, "Appeals Court Upholds Death Penalty for Ponca City Man":

The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the death sentence given to convicted murderer Clayton Darrell Lockett, of Ponca City, Oklahoma. Lockett was convicted in August 2000 of the first degree murder of 19-year-old Stephanie Nieman. Lockett was also sentenced to more than 2,285 years in prison for associated non-capital crimes occurring that night, including assault with a dangerous weapon, burglary, first degree rape, and kidnapping.

A jury found that on June 3, 1999, Clayton Lockett and two co-conspirators, Shawn Mathis and Alfonso Lockett, broke into the Perry, Oklahoma, home of Bobby Bornt. They assaulted Bornt before burglarizing his home for drugs. While they were at Bornt's home, two 19-year-old women arrived. The men repeatedly raped and assaulted one woman, whose name is withheld as a victim of sexual assault, before loading Bornt, Bornt's 9-month-old son, Stephanie Nieman, and the other woman into Bornt's and Nieman's trucks and driving them to a rural location in Kay County.

Bornt testified that he heard Clayton Locket say, "Someone has got to go," before he put Nieman in a ditch dug by Shawn Mathis and shot her twice. He also testified to hearing the men laugh about "how tough [Nieman] was" when she did not die after the first shot.

Bornt and the other victim believe they were spared because they have children; however, both testified to hearing Lockett plan to kill them and take Bornt's infant son to either a shelter or Bornt's parents' house.

Clayton Lockett was found to be the instigator of all crimes that evening. According to court documents, State's evidence included a videotaped confession by Locket in which he "confessed to going to Mr. Bornt’s home to rob him; to personally hitting and beating Mr. Bornt, [name withheld], and Ms. Neiman with his fists or with the shotgun; to binding the victims with duct tape; to planning to kill all three adult victims; to forcing them (along with the baby) to leave Mr. Bornt’s house and go to the country, where the adults were to be killed; to taking Ms. Neiman’s and Mr. Bornt’s trucks; to being the ultimate decision maker as to which victims would be killed; to instructing Mr. Mathis on how to dig the grave; to personally shooting Ms. Neiman while she cried; to threatening to kill them if they told anyone of his crimes; and to insisting that his accomplices bury Ms. Neiman when he knew she was still alive." He was convicted of 19 felony counts...
But OMG cruel and unusual!!

Clayton Lockett Botched Execution

Hey, props to Oklahoma whose officials will almost single handedly ensure that the death penalty is finally ruled cruel and unusual.

This execution went so awry that officials tried to resuscitate Lockett.

Frankly, just bring back the firing squad. Damn.

At London's Daily Mail, "Killer dies of heart attack after twenty minutes of agony when Oklahoma experimental drug execution goes wrong. Second lethal injection postponed."

Also at the Tulsa World, "Execution botched before inmate dies of heart attack; second execution postponed":

McALESTER -- The execution of convicted killer Clayton Lockett was botched tonight at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary before he died of a massive heart attack. The event prompted officials to postpone a second execution scheduled for two hours later.
Lockett was given execution drugs and reacted violently, kicking and grimacing while lifting his head off the gurney to which he was strapped. He was pronounced dead at 7:06 p.m. inside the execution chamber -- 43 minutes after the process began -- Department of Corrections Director Robert Patton said.

In a media conference, Patton said Lockett's veins "exploded" during the execution, which began at 6:23 p.m. The inmate died from what Patton called a "massive heart attack." The death occurred after the execution process was halted.

Convicted killer Charles Warner was scheduled to be executed at 8 p.m. Patton said he notified the governor's office and the attorney general's office about the events and asked for a 14-day delay of Warner's execution, which was scheduled for 8 p.m.
Gov. Mary Fallin issued a statement tonight saying she had issued an executive order delaying Warner's execution for 14 days.

“I have asked the Department of Corrections to conduct a full review of Oklahoma’s execution procedures to determine what happened and why during this evening’s execution of Clayton Derrell Lockett,” Fallin said in the statement. “I have issued an executive order delaying the execution of Charles Frederick Warner for 14 days to allow for that review to be completed.”

Tonight's executions were to be the first in Oklahoma using a new three-drug cocktail of vecuronium bromide, midazolam and potassium chloride.

Lockett had no last words as the execution began. Sixteen minutes after it started, OSP Warden Anita Trammell said: “We’re going to lower the blinds temporarily.” A doctor in the chamber went to Lockett’s right arm and lifted the sheet, apparently checking his vein where a tube had been inserted.

Patton left the room for several minutes and was on the phone. Department of Public Safety Commissioner Michael Thompson then left the observation area to take a phone call from the line inside the execution chamber.

When Patton returned to the observation room, he said: “We’ve had a vein failure in which the chemicals did not make it into the offender. Under my authority, we’re issuing a stay for the second execution.”
More at that top link.

Amazing.

Leftist demands for more "humane" executions ends up bringing about more inhumanity --- and, ultimately, a further erosion of public support for capital punishment.

There's gotta be some Alinskyite angle in here somewhere. Man, those criminal-coddling progs are good!

Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin Found Guilty of Corruption

Look, all Democrats are corrupt. It's their nature. Nagin just happened to get caught. Drained the favor bank I guess. F-ker got thrown under the bus.

At the New Orleans Times-Picayune, "Ray Nagin, former New Orleans mayor, convicted of federal corruption charges":
Ray Nagin, the former two-term mayor of New Orleans indicted after he left office, was convicted Wednesday of 20 federal corruption charges for illegal dealings with city vendors, dating back to 2004. A jury delivered its verdict just before 1 p.m., after six hours of deliberations that followed a nine-day trial.

Nagin, 57, joins a list of Louisiana elected officials convicted of misdeeds while in office, but he is New Orleans' first mayor to be convicted of public corruption. Under federal sentencing guidelines, he could face a 20-year prison term, possibly more, lawyers have said.

In a case that relied heavily on the testimony of businessmen-turned-convicts -- and a paper trail that showed money changing hands and lucrative city contracts doled out -- prosecutors described a public official "on the take." Nagin was an opportunist who pursued businessmen under pressure to get government work, targeting them to line his own pockets, prosecutors said.

Nagin's defense attorney, Robert Jenkins, characterized those contractors -- some of whom suffer from their own legal and financial problems -- as scheming to use Nagin without his knowledge, and now eager to testify to help their own situations.

Nagin sat expressionless, staring straight ahead, when the verdict was read. His wife, Seletha Nagin, sobbed. Relatives tried to console her.

Making a call to one of their sons, Jeremy Nagin, she could be heard saying, "Jeremy, Jeremy, calm down."

Nagin was somber and silent as he made his way through a crush of reporters outside of the courthouse -- a far cry from the confidence he showed when he first arrived more than two weeks ago at the start of his trial.

Addressing the press, Jenkins said, "Obviously, I'm surprised. Now we're moving on to the appeal process."

Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Coman, the lead prosecutor on the case, gave a brief statement. "We are pleased with the verdict and obviously we are very thankful to the jury and the court," he said.

Jurors acquitted Nagin of a single bribery charge involving a $10,000 payment from Three Fold Consultants to Nagin's sons, Jeremy and Jarin. The check was made out to cash, and written to the Nagin family's granite countertop business, Stone Age LLC. The sons were not charged in the case and did not testify.

Jurors began deliberating Monday, spending about three hours in discussions before breaking for the day. A medical issue with a juror postponed proceedings on Tuesday, but they went back to work Wednesday at 9 a.m.

Nagin, a Democrat, was the public face of the city during Hurricane Katrina, making national headlines as he lambasted the federal government for its response to the storm and subsequent flood.

He now lives in Frisco, Texas, where he has avoided the spotlight, staying quiet save for an occasional tweet, since his indictment a year ago.

Reacting to the verdict in the afternoon, Nagin successor Mayor Mitch Landrieu called it a "terribly sad day for New Orleans."
Yes, "terribly sad," the prick. Landrieu should be in the dock as well, the asswipe.

'The general consensus is you are absolutely smoking hot...'

That's the pitch from adult film concern Monarchy Distribution. Making a porn flick could defray legal expenses, and could no doubt help amanda get on with her life. You know. That kind of thing, wink, wink.

At London's Daily Mail, "'The general consensus is you are absolutely smoking hot': Adult entertainment company asks Amanda Knox to star in a PORN movie for $20,000 'to help cover her legal costs'."

I don't find "Foxy Knoxy" all that hot, actually. Of course, standards for celebrity smut aren't that high to begin with.
