It's the end of the world, at Pam's House Blend:
Even if the well were capped today and its outflow brought to zero, and even if the integrity of the rock is not further weakened and there is no sinkhole, oil and methane will continue to seep out through the sea bed for a very long time. This is bad, people, very bad. And there is nothing we can do at this point to stop it.Well, it's all about "climate change," isn't it?
It is starting to look more and more like my use of "ecological armageddon" is not hyperbole after all.
And it's "6 Minutes to Midnight," so maybe these people have a point. And nice to see something besides gay marriage blogging for once, LOL!
I dunno if you've heard, but the Russians have NUKED these things in the Soviet days.
ReplyDeleteSome are saying it will be our only option, too
Seriously, RR? Yes, let's detonate a thermonuclear device a few miles off the coast of an American state. The fact that you guys call yourselves "conservative" is laughable.
ReplyDeleteIt's called a relief well, chief. It's the one solution we know will work but since it takes several months to drill BP is throwing all of their junk shots and top hats at the leak while we wait.
And if the intrusive and anti-capitalist government bureaucrats had just insisted that they drill it when they drilled their primary well as a condition of being allowed to do so a mile beneath the oceans surface we wouldn't have this problem right now. But since that would have cost them money the industry fought it tooth and nail and won, and we all lost.
Now start chanting your "free markets are ALWAYS better than governments" mantra again.
JBW You have a point about the nuclear option. Wouldn't be to wise and Russia isn't exactly the model I would wish to follow. If is a mighty handy word. If the MMS had been on top of it and not rubber stamped the changes, it wouldn't have happened. If BP hadn't decided to cut costs, it may not have happened? If they had been allowed to drill in 200 to 500 feet, the well would have already been capped. That's just for now. Who knows what the investigation is going to uncover. I think there is plenty of blame to go around and we all need to quit pointing fingers at each other and saying liberal, conservative. We need to face this head on and fix it. Because that's what we do.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Marie. I'm not trying to point fingers here but when someone who calls himself "Reaganite Republican" seriously suggests detonating a nuclear warhead off the coast of America when we know that the relief well will be done in a few months the irony abounds. I doubt Reagan would find that very conservative.
