#Angels Beat #Athletics 4-0 in Spectacular Rivaly Match at Anaheim Stadium

I mentioned the playoff atmosphere in my post yesterday before the game, "Angels-Athletics Rivalry Has 'Playoff Feel'."

And there were no disappointments.

Mike DiGiovanna reports, at the Los Angeles Times, "Angels get A's for effort in 4-0 victory":
Oakland center fielder Coco Crisp risked serious injury when he crashed into the wall in a gallant effort to rob Angels catcher Chris Iannetta of a two-run home run in the fifth inning Friday night.

Angels left fielder Josh Hamilton hurled his body into foul territory to make a superb diving catch of Alberto Callaspo's fifth-inning popup with two on, to which center fielder Mike Trout responded: "That's what I'm talking about, baby!"

Trout raced into the left-center-field gap and caught Stephen Vogt's drive before slamming into the wall to save a run in the fourth. And Angels ace Jered Weaver pumped his fist violently and screamed an obscenity into the air after getting Josh Reddick to fly to left with the bases loaded to end the sixth.

What the Angels-Athletics rivalry might lack in name-brand recognition or a decades-old history of bitterness, it is making up for in on-field intensity.

Emotions ran high again Friday night, as Weaver gave up three hits in seven shutout innings to lead the Angels to a 4-0 victory before an energized crowd of 41,177 in Angel Stadium...
More.

In an all-around phenomenal game, the Coco Crisp effort to snag Iannetta's home run was particularly dramatic.

I picked up tickets yesterday afternoon, so our seats were way up on the top level, almost all the way down the third base line. From my angle, the center-field fence was parallel with my view. I was talking to my son and not paying close attention when Iannetta came up to bat, but I saw him get some good wood on the ball and was wondering if it was going to go out of the yard. And then here come the outfielders to try to make a play. It took me a second to remember that Crisp was playing center, but as soon as he went up I knew, and he slammed into the wall hard. It looked like he robbed Iannetta of the homer, but we were too far away to see the ball pop out of the glove. And then Crisp jumped up and clutched his abdomen, finally doubling over in pain. I saw an usher or groundsman behind the center-field wall go over and pick up a ball, so I thought then that Crisp wasn't able to hold on. But the scoreboard hadn't recording the home run, and I didn't see the umpire signal the score. Pretty intense baseball, that's for sure. And so different watching it at the park than on television.

In any case, here's the Athletics home page with the video, "Crisp exits after crash into wall on stellar effort."

Oakland Eco-Fascists Slammed for Caring More About Baby Herons Than City's Homeless

You have to read to believe it, but then again, it's Oakland, right next door to Berkeley, a.k.a, Moscow by the Bay.

At the New York Times, "Birds Leave Nest Involuntarily, and Oakland Fumes":

Baby Herons photo DSC_0227-L_zpse3a8ec83.jpg
OAKLAND, Calif. — It started as a well-intentioned attempt by the United States Postal Service here to rid its trucks of bird droppings: A tree trimmer was hired to prune the lush ficus trees that grow next to the post office’s parking lot, not far from City Hall. But in the course of the job, five baby black-crowned night herons fell from their nests and were injured.

At first there were reports that the birds had been fed into a wood chipper — not true — and from there the story took on a life of its own. Residents and city officials called for avian justice. Bird lovers from France, Romania, Serbia, Sweden, Ukraine and even New Jersey signed an online petition with the headline “Oakland Chainsaw Massacre” that called on the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to press charges against the perpetrators.

They have gotten their wish and more: The tree trimmer, Ernesto Pulido, 26, is staring at a possible federal charge of violating the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918.

“I’m not a gangster,” said a contrite Mr. Pulido, who has visited the bird shelter where the victims are recuperating and voluntarily paid $2,500 for their medical care. “I’m just a guy who’s making a living day to day.”

Since the incident in early May, Mr. Pulido has moved his pregnant wife and young daughter to another house, he said, because he was receiving threats. He added that he loved animals and was raised in Mexico with more animals than people.

But in Oakland, a city that has been rapidly gentrifying, concern for the birds runs very high — higher, some people complain, than concern for the city’s large homeless population. Downtown Oakland has long been known for its high crime rate and gritty urban feel, despite the recent arrival of young people and food lovers, whose presence has prompted some people to call the city “the new Brooklyn.”

Wendy Jackson, executive director of the East Oakland Community Project, which provides housing for the homeless, said that when people help baby birds, “it feels pure to them.” Their attitude toward homeless adults is less charitable: “They think those adults should be able to pull themselves up by their bootstraps,” she said. “Often, that is not possible.”
More.

Shoot, they'd murder the homeless before they'd lift a finger against those birds.

Environmentalists are fascist totalitarians. This story is utterly disgusting.

Crime-Ravaged Oakland Residents Hire Private Security as City Slashes Public Safety

The primary function of government is to secure the public safety. That's why people come together to form the social contract, to escape the "state of nature" and provide order out of anarchy. And when government fails in its most basic responsibilities, it falls to citizens to fend for themselves. And with California perhaps the state most unfriendly to gun rights, increasingly, those who stay safe are the ones who'll be able to afford their own protection.

Here's a report at CBS News:

And the San Francisco Chronicle reports on how bad it's gotten in Oakland. Funerals are so routine it takes the violent shooting death of 16-month-old baby for people to be shocked at the violence. That's how low it's become. See, "Tiny casket symbolizes new low for Oakland crime."

There's loads of reporting on racial crime problem (at Bloomberg, for example), but this Economist piece comes closest to explaining what's happening, "Oakland: Killing for respect."

And see the discussion at the New York Times, "Weekend Opinionator: Oakland’s Tragedy, and Black America’s."

Yes, the tragedy of BLACK America, which is not a tragedy of racism but a failure of both the leftist culture and politically correct Democrat black-privilege policies.

Protesters Heckle Oakland Mayor Jean Quan at #TrayvonMartin Rally

I just mentioned this the other day, hilariously:
Idiot city leaders like this are completely bum-f-ked when they realize the protesters with whom they share ideological solidarity couldn't give a rat's ass about them and their words of "beautiful" peace and freedom speech.

And heckling the mayor is not a good sign that protesters want to keep it peaceful today. But we'll see.

Oakland Police Cancel Days Off So That Every Officer Available on Saturday

The video at this report is worth your time, at NBC Bay Area, "Oakland, San Francisco Join 100 Justice of Trayvon Rallies."

Hopefully it all stays peaceful today. Either way, the authorities aren't taking any chances.

Oakland #TrayvonMartin Protesters March on Fruitvale BART Station

Here we go again. Maybe there will be some pretty good protest action this weekend.

Oakland #Zimmerman Protests Kick Off for Fourth Night

Here we go.

Some revolutionary Occupy solidarity while things still seem calm.

Waiter at Oakland's Flora Restaurant Hit by Hammer During #TrayvonMartin Riots

Man, these people are animals.

At the San Francisco Chronicle, "Waiter attacked, freeway blocked in 3rd Oakland protest."

And, "Waiter hit by hammer in Oakland doing OK."

Well, yeah. The dude's lucky to be alive.

More at Twitchy, "Heckuva job, mob: Oakland waiter hit with hammer by Trayvon Martin vigilantes."

LAPD Deploys for 4th Night of #Zimmerman Riots

Seems to me things would be cooling down by now, but I suspect the Trayvon Martin rioters have been having too much fun to let things go already.

As always, I'll be updating throughout the night --- because, look over there! No "mass" riots!

Oakland's Non-Profit Youth Radio Smashed by #TrayvonMartin Rioters

Because it's all about "justice" for the disadvantaged, mf.

At Twitchy, "For Trayvon? Genius rioters smash up Youth Radio in Oakland [photos, video]":
“Mostly peaceful protesters” mostly smashed the crap out Youth Radio, a nonprofit youth-based media organization in Oakland, Calif. Hey, someone’s gotta hold those windows accountable for George Zimmerman’s not-guilty verdict … for the children.

What would yours say? Get a job, mf.

And, well, maybe the youth director will think twice about tweeting that dumbf-k communist solidarity crap. Love the folded arms. He deserves it, the tool.

Police Use 'Flash Bang Grenades' on Totally 'Peaceful Protesters' in Oakland, or Something

Yes, because you always need to deploy flash bang grenades to subdue the Mahatma Gandhi-style protesters we're seeing, right? At KGO-TV San Francisco:

Oakland Riots After #Zimmerman Not Guilty Verdict

At the San Francisco Chronicle, "No arrests in Oakland vandalism."

Across the bay in Oakland ... about 125 protesters gathered at Frank Ogawa Plaza outside City Hall before marching through downtown, starting small fires and smashing windows at the Wells Fargo Bank at 12th Street and Broadway and at several locations, including the Dogwood Bar, the Oakland Tribune, the Foot Locker shoe store and the Sears store.

A BART police car parked outside the 12th Street BART Station had its windows smashed, and protesters spray-painted "F- the police" and "Kill Pigs" on the side of the vehicle.

About 11:30 p.m., Oakland police formed a skirmish line near their headquarters at 7th Street and Broadway and came face-to-face with protesters.

As Argus, the police helicopter, monitored from above, the crowd soon moved away from the intersection and headed east on 14th Street, stopping at a McDonald's restaurant shortly after midnight to burn several flags and to spray-paint "Kill Zimmerman" and "FTP," an anti-police epithet, on the side of Alameda County's Rene C. Davidson Courthouse.

The protesters then returned to Broadway and Telegraph Avenue by about 12:30 a.m., smashing more windows, setting more fires and throwing garbage cans at motorists before dispersing, police said. No arrests were made, and there were no reported injuries, said Officer Johnna Watson, an Oakland police spokeswoman.
Well, it's Oakland, so it's like completely unexpected, or something.

Shooting at Oikos University in Oakland: Suspect Was Looking for Administrator

At Telegraph UK, "Oakland shooting: gunman 'was seeking revenge for being expelled'":
A gunman who killed seven people in a massacre at a Christian college was upset after being teased by other students about his English skills, and was seeking vengeance against a school official who had expelled him.
When he could not find the female administrator he was looking for South Korean-born One Goh, 43, shot dead a secretary at the front desk and then entered a classroom where he lined students up against a board and executed them at point blank range.

Goh had been attending Oikos University in Oakland, California, as a nursing student before being asked to leave several months ago.

He had previously lived in Springfield, Virginia, less than 20 miles from Centreville, the home town of Seung-Hui Cho, the South Korean who killed 32 people in the Virginia Tech school massacre on April 16, 2007.

In March last year Goh attended a memorial service in Centreville for his brother, US Army Sergeant Su Wan Ko, 31, who died in a road accident. He also has a surviving brother in the town, which has a large Korean population. It was unclear whether Goh and Cho ever knew each other.

Obama Administration to Review Involuntary Manslaughter Conviction in Oscar Grant Shooting Trial

At ABC7 San Francisco, "US Justice Department to review BART shooting," and at Weasel Zippers, "After Riots Break Out in Oakland Over White Transit Cop Who Shot Black Man Being Convicted of Involuntary Manslaughter, AG Holder Says He’s Considering Bringing Federal Charges Against Officer." (Via Memorandum). Kimberly Guilfoyle, on Megyn Kelly's right now, sees a travesty of justice (with the BART officer deserving of a second degree murder conviction). More on the that at Outside the Beltway and Oakland Local. But see San Franciso Chronicle, "The right verdict in Mehserle case."

Plus, more on the rioting. The message from Grand Lake Theater:

And more video from the scene:

See also San Francisco Chronicle, "83 arrests in Oakland follow Mehserle verdict."

PREVIOUSLY: "Riots in Oakland After Oscar Grant Verdict: 'Many Bent on Destruction No Matter What'."

Riots in Oakland After Oscar Grant Verdict: 'Many Bent on Destruction No Matter What'

The guilty verdict is here: "Mehserle convicted of involuntary manslaughter."

And the late update, "
After dark, mobs form, smash windows, loot":
The trouble Thursday boiled down to a racially diverse mob of about 200 people, many bent on destruction no matter what, confronting police after the day's predominantly peaceful demonstrations ended.

Sporadic conflicts were quelled quickly early in the evening, but by late night at least 50 people - and maybe as many as 100 - had been arrested as small groups smashed windows, looted businesses and set trash bins on fire.
Plus, a massive slideshow at Oakland Tribune, "Mehserle guilty of involuntary manslaughter." Clicking through to photo #9, protester Raquel Sharp is pictured with a "Made in Aztlán" t-shirt, and at slide #18, an unidentified protester is arrested sporting a keffiyeh. Gives you an idea of what "social justice" is about ...

And here's this on
Twitter:
Many of the most aggressive demonstrators smashing the windows of banks and shops were white.
See also, "'MY SON WAS MURDERED' -- GRANT'S MOM," and "No Justice: Oscar Grant Verdict Overshadowed By LeBron James."

Lots of video. Notice especially this first clip of the looting, with the thug walking out casually --- with products packed neatly in a bag --- as if it's shopping at the mall:

And here's how Occupy California describes it:

As the rally ended and the sound system removed, only a handful of people left the area. For nearly an hour, the crowd remained confused and unsure what the next step was. People milled about, discussing what had happened, reacquainting themselves with friends, and figuring out what to do. Much of the sentiment in the crowd seemed to wish a march or a collective escape from the intersections. Instead we stood around, as police forces continued to encircle the crowd. Eventually the crowd felt a sense of rush, away from 12th st and back to 14th and broadway. There we stood again, dense as sardines in a can without a collective escape from the looming police. As the anticipation rose, waves of excitement and fear hit us. Those of us in the middle and back of the crowd near 14th st felt bodies rush past us and then forward again north on broadway. Finally something snapped, people began spraying graffiti on walls and smashing windows. The footlocker on broadway was smashed, but the metal security fence behind the glass held no one back; the crowd pushed through and the merchandise in the store was looted. The bounty was shared by all as looters liberated shoes and clothing and jettisoned much of it into the crowd.
Hmm ... "looters liberated shoes"?

There's no such thing as private property to the anarcho-communist thugs.
