Lt. Col. Ralph Peters Slams Obama's Upcoming Visit to Hiroshima (VIDEO)
Following-up from the other day, "Obama to Visit Hiroshima; Talk of Atomic Bomb Apology Stirs Controversy (VIDEO)."
I don't watch Fox Business Channel very much, which made me realize right now that I don't see Ralph Peters on the main Fox News network much anymore. I guess he's been relegated to the business channel after calling the president a "total pussy." Sadly, PC intolerance infects even the so-called conservatives at Rupert Murdoch's crib.

Finished: Kim R. Holmes, The Closing of the Liberal Mind
I finished The Closing of the Liberal Mind over the weekend.
The book's a quick read, but it's heavyweight in its implications. I'll be keeping my copy next to my bedside for a ready reference, and for periodic review. Especially good are Holmes' theory chapters, on the ideology of classical liberalism, and particularly on postmodern leftism and leftist authoritarianism. I can't recommend these enough, mainly because these chapters represent the best, most concise recent writings on the nature of the contemporary radical left, and the threat leftism poses to the American political and cultural order.
I have two quibbles: One, I was perturbed by Holmes' discussion of Dylann Roof, and especially how he mistakenly characterized Roof as a "white supremacist" who represents the "intolerance and bigotry" of "the right." Holmes writes that the 2015 Charleston attack "shows that a violent strain of racial hatred still exists on the far right in America." As readers may recall, I showed here that Roof isn't on the right. In fact, Roof's an "emo-prog" leftist, and frankly, the photo of Roof burning the American flag should have been enough evidence to figure that out without all of this about the "far right," a discussion which draws on leftist and MSM tropes seeking to demonize conservatives. I'll speak to Holmes about this personally if I meet him, perhaps at a book signing or something.
Two, Holmes provides a powerful explanation of why leftists are not liberals, offering a definition of what we normally refer to as "progressives" as "postmodern leftists." This is really perfect terminology, and easy to use. The problem is that Holmes, after offering these terms, in fact doesn't use them consistently himself. I didn't count, but Holmes used the term "progressive liberals" more than other other combination of terminology, which was frustrating because the whole point of his chapter 2, "The Rise of the Postmodern Left," was to reclaim "liberalism" for the classic meaning of the word as a political orientation favoring limits on government power, free exchange of ideas, free enterprise economics, and tolerance of political and religious differences. I was basically furrowing my brows throughout the book whenever Holmes abandoned his defined terminology and relapsed back into talking about postmodern radical leftists as "progressive liberals."
That's about it. As noted, I particularly enjoyed the book's parsimoniousness. It's largely a pleasure to read, and I had a couple of "aha" moments as well, always a good indicator of scholarly success.
In any case, I definitely recommend the book to my readers. It's a must-have item for your library.

Obama to Visit Hiroshima; Talk of Atomic Bomb Apology Stirs Controversy (VIDEO)
I swear if Obama utters even the slightest inkling of an apology I think I'll just die.
The White House denied suggestions that O would apologize, but I'm not buying it.

Okay, Started Reading, The Closing of the Liberal Mind [BUMPED]
I love Amazon.
I ordered Kim Holmes' new book on Thursday night when I got paid, with free shipping, and the package was delivered on Sunday!
Man, that was fast. And so cool too. I've been plowing through the pages!
I haven't been this excited about a new book for a year or two, and I can't recommend this one enough. It's explains very carefully the precise nature of the ideological threat we're facing, taking the argument right to the top of the Democrat Party hierarchy. Conservatives have a lot of work to do if they hope to reclaim some of the ideological space, and to save American politics from even much more dire straights in the years ahead.

The Dead End of Critical Theory and Political Correctness (VIDEO)
I'm a 6' 5'' Chinese woman.
Really. I can be anything I want to be, as long as I'm not hurting anyone else.
Well, what if you are hurting someone else? Shut up. It's not your place to judge another human being.
From Blazing Cat Fur, "How Dumb Are Today’s College Students?"
ADDED: Also at the Other McCain, "‘Gender’ Madness: How Far It’s Gone."

Out Today: Kim R. Holmes, The Closing of the Liberal Mind
I blogged Mr. Holmes' YouTube video last Thursday, "Kim R. Holmes: How Liberals Lost Their Way (VIDEO)."
His new book is out today. Actually, I'm pretty excited to read this one. I might shuffle my reading list around a little to boost this one to the top.

Kim R. Holmes: How Liberals Lost Their Way (VIDEO)
Kim R. Holmes is a Distinguished Fellow at the Heritage Foundation, and his book's out on April 12th. I'm really looking forward to it.

At Amazon, The Closing of the Liberal Mind: How Groupthink and Intolerance Define the Left.
A former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State and currently a Distinguished Fellow at the Heritage Foundation, Kim R. Holmes surveys the state of liberalism in America today and finds that it is becoming its opposite—illiberalism—abandoning the precepts of open-mindedness and respect for individual rights, liberties, and the rule of law upon which the country was founded, and becoming instead an intolerant, rigidly dogmatic ideology that abhors dissent and stifles free speech. Tracing the new illiberalism historically to the radical Enlightenment, a movement that rejected the classic liberal ideas of the moderate Enlightenment that were prominent in the American Founding, Holmes argues that today’s liberalism has forsaken its American roots, incorporating instead the authoritarian, anti-clerical, and anti-capitalist prejudices of the radical and largely European Left. The result is a closing of the American liberal mind...More.

What's a Feminist?
A flashback, to November 8, 1975, at the New York Times, "A Feminist? Definition Varies With the Woman."
The piece is at the Times' "wayback machine," which looks like some gimmick to get you to subscribe. No need though, at least for this piece. Just magnify and read it at the link.
And for the real lowdown on feminism, get Robert Stacy McCain's book, Sex Trouble: Essays on Radical Feminism and the War Against Human Nature.

'Sex Trouble: Essays on Radical Feminism and the War Against Human Nature'
Here's Robert Stacy McCain's new book:
Radical feminism has declared war on human nature. Feminists assert that everything most people think of as normal and natural about sex -- including basic ideas about what it means to be male and female -- is oppressive to women. Award-winning journalist Robert Stacy McCain examines these theories and warns that feminism's radical ideas about "equality" could destroy our civilization. This is cool. Buy the book.

Deep Denials, Missed Chances on Newtown Murderer Adam Lanza
This makes me sick. Nancy Lanza especially. She practically deserved to die for her gross negligence toward her son's psychiatric care.
At LAT, "New report on Newtown shooter: Parental denial, breakdowns, missed opportunities":
At LAT, "New report on Newtown shooter: Parental denial, breakdowns, missed opportunities":
In February 2007, Yale clinicians identified in Adam Lanza what they believed were profound emotional disabilities and offered him treatment that could give him relief for the first time in his troubled life.More.
But Adam was angry and anxious, and he didn't want to go. His mother, Nancy Lanza, constantly placating her son, was inclined to pull away from the treatment, prompting a psychiatric nurse to reach out to his father, Peter Lanza, in an urgent email.
"I told Adam he has a biological disorder that can be helped with medication. I told him what the medicines are and why they can work. I told him he's living in a box right now and the box will only get smaller over time if he doesn't get some treatment."
Nancy Lanza rejected the Yale doctors' plan. Adam was 14.
Six years later, Adam, now an emaciated recluse and fixated with mass killers, murdered his mother and massacred 20 children and six educators before turning a gun on himself at the elementary school he once attended in the Sandy Hook section of Newtown.
A report released today by the Office of the Child Advocate pointed to the Yale episode as one of dozens of red flags, squandered opportunities, blatant family denial and disturbing failures by pediatricians, educators and mental health professionals to see a complete picture of Adam Lanza's "crippling" social and emotional disabilities.
While the report does not draw a line between the events in Adam Lanza's young life and the massacre, it points out repeated examples where the profound anxiety and rage simmering inside Lanza was not explored in favor of attempts to manage his symptoms.
For example, at the apex of Adam's increasing phobias and problems coping with middle school, he went to a pediatrician and was repeatedly prescribed a lotion to soothe hands rubbed raw by excessive washing and a laxative to ease constipation brought on by a dangerous loss of weight. Yet, the authors note that there was no effort during these visits to address the underlying causes. A visit to a hospital emergency room was cut short before there was a chance for clinicians to explore Adam's problems at greater depth and schedule him for long-term treatment because Nancy Lanza said that being at the hospital was making Adam anxious.
"This shooting could have been stopped at any point along the trajectory of (Adam Lanza's) life," said Scarlett Lewis, whose son Jesse was one of the first-graders killed in classrooms in the Sandy Hook School.
"Red flags were evident, yet procedures were not in place to effectively deal with the issues. This is a systemic concern," Lewis said.
Lewis has started a foundation in her son's honor called the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Foundation to create and promote social and emotional learning programs for school-aged children.

What Did Happen Exactly to James Hong, David Wang, and George Chen?
I'm really disliking this 20/20 Barbara Walters interview with Peter Rodger, Elliot Rodger's dad.
I might blog it tomorrow. I think Mr. Rodger is lying about how "surprised" he was at his son's rampage. He even sees his son as the "victim," not the perpetrator. (Or he thought his son was the "victim" when he first got news from Isla Vista.)
Meanwhile, here's the front-page report out a week or so ago at the Los Angeles Times "UCSB friends were victims of circumstance."
Also, "Elliot Rodger may have used knife, hammer, machete in killings, attorney says."
