USC Head Football Coach Steve Sarkisian Placed on Leave of Absence (VIDEO)

They don't tolerate losing much at USC. If the team had been winning, Sarkisian would still have a job. He's on the way out. Blame health reasons or whatever, but he's on the way out because the team's losing.

At the Los Angeles Times, "USC places Coach Steve Sarkisian on leave; Clay Helton interim coach."

And at CBS News 2 Los Angeles, "It's 'very clear to me that he is not healthy' - #USC's Haden on #Sarkisian leave of absence."

Here's the background, at Lost Lettermen, "Steve Sarkisian Allegedly Gets Drunk at Event, Makes Ass of Himself."

And at the O.C. Register, "VIDEO: USC football coach Steve Sarkisian says he mixed alcohol with medication, apologizes again for his behavior":

LOS ANGELES - USC coach Steve Sarkisian acknowledged he was intoxicated and again apologized for his recent behavior while meeting with the media Tuesday morning for the first time since an ugly incident at a school event over the weekend.

Sarkisian said his altered state at the annual “Salute to Troy” rally was the result of mixing unspecified medication that he takes with alcohol. He is not facing a suspension and will continue to coach the team, barring further developments.

Sarkisian did say that he will participate in a treatment program. He did not specify what that is but said it will not be full-on rehab. He also said he does not believe he has a drinking problem. Here's a full transcript of Sarkisian's remarks...

No. 14 USC Rallies to Beat No. 10 Stanford 13-10 On the Road

At LAT, "USC rallies to defeat Stanford, 13-10":

USC faced an uphill battle Saturday, opening Pac-12 Conference play at Stanford, which was owner of a 17-game home-field winning streak.

The streak was the longest in the nation. Past tense.

Andre Heidari kicked a career-long 53-yard field goal with less than three minutes to play and USC’s defense fell on a last-minute Stanford fumble as the Trojans came away with a 13-10 victory.

It was Heidari's second game-winning kick against the Cardinal in the last two seasons.

USC’s last five games against Stanford have been decided by seven points or less.

"It just always seems to come down to the last series of the game and our guys did just a great job of executing," USC Coach Steve Sarkisian said during a televised postgame interview.

High Expectations, New Traditions for #USC Football

Fresno State faces the Trojans at the Coliseum, starting in a couple of minutes.

At the Los Angeles Times, "USC's Steve Sarkisian hopes fans can embrace break with tradition":
There is a certain traditional look to USC football.

Traveler, the white horse, races down the sidelines during home games, right past the iconic USC song girls. The Trojans marching band performs "Fight On" after every USC first down. And fans need a program to identify the Trojans because they are the only players in major college football who have never had names on the back of their jerseys.

But change will be obvious the first time USC has the ball Saturday when the Trojans open the season against Fresno State at the Coliseum.

New Coach Steve Sarkisian has hit the fast-forward button on USC's offense.

Get ready for no huddles. For a quarterback mainly in the shotgun formation. Coaches relaying signs to players like baseball third-base coaches. Sideline staff holding giant cards featuring NFL team helmets, colors and various patterns and symbols.
