Mike Rowe: Slaves Are Not 'Hard Workers'

I have this on the sidebar links, but it's too good not to post to the front page.

Here's the "Dirty Jobs" guy, Mike Rowe, responding to the demented Melissa Harris-Perry and her comments about "hard work".

On Facebook, "'Hello Mr. Rowe! What's your take on MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry being offended by the phrase "hard worker"? How can such a label possibly be offensive to anyone?”":
First of all, slavery is not “hard work;” it’s forced labor. There’s a big difference. Likewise, slaves are not workers; they are by definition, property. They have no freedom, no hope, and no rights. Yes, they work hard, obviously. But there can be no “work ethic” among slaves, because the slave has no choice in the matter.

Workers on the other hand, have free will. They are free to work as hard as they wish. Or not. The choice is theirs. And their decision to work hard, or not, is not a function of compliance or coercion; it’s a reflection of character and ambition.

This business of conflating hard work with forced labor not only minimizes the importance of a decent work ethic, it diminishes the unspeakable horror of slavery. Unfortunately, people do this all the time. We routinely describe bosses as “slave-drivers,” and paychecks as “slave’s wages.” Melissa though, has come at it from the other side. She’s suggesting that because certain “hard workers” are not as prosperous as other “hard workers,” - like the people on her office wall - we should all be “super-careful” about overly-praising hard work.

I suspect this is because Melissa believes - as do many others - that success today is mostly a function of what she calls, “relative privilege.” This is fancy talk for the simple fact that life is unfair, and some people are born with more advantages than others. It's also a fine way to prepare the unsuspecting viewer for the extraordinary suggestion that slavery is proof-positive that hard work doesn’t pay off.

Unlike Scott Walker, Donald Trump 'Just Gets Right Out There' with His Racism (VIDEO)

Well, at least in Britain you've got a hard-left that's genuinely interesting.

Here in the states we've got leftists who are caricatures of far left-wing caricatures. It's not funny in the least.

At Truth Revolt, "Progressive Editor: 'Subtly Racist' Walker Losing 'Explicitly Racist' Voters To Trump":
"Donald Trump has taken out a bullhorn and said the things that Walker used to say with a dog whistle. I mean you'll notice when you played the clip of his speech, all of these things he bragged about doing in Wisconsin have this subtle racial subtext, and that's no accident. Walker's political rise comes out of the right-wing talk radio sphere right around the suburbs of Milwaukee and there's a lot of very explicit racism there. And that's been a part of his campaign in a low-key way, he's appealed to racism among voters. Donald Trump just gets right out there with it."
All assertions. No facts. But then, this is the postmodern "satanic" left. Truth is light. Leftists love darkness. Hence, they just spew a bunch of evil shit, targets and bystanders be damned.

Professor Caroline Heldman: 'We Are a White Supremacist Society...'

I can remember when she used to come off as a traditional "liberal" feminist, but she's been radicalized these past few years, drunk with power from her rape culture campus shakedown, and now's she's an epic caricature of the fever-swamp LWNJ.

I seriously feel sorry for her, an actual professor of political science.

Internal Revenue Service Places $70,000 Tax Lien on MSNBC's Melissa Harris-Perry

Because leftists like Harris-Perry want others to pay for their tyrannical collectivist redistribution schemes.

This is literally obscene.

At the Winston-Salem Journal, "Internal Revenue Service Places $70,00 Tax Lien on MSNBC's Melissa Harris-Perry."

And at Twitchy, "‘Epic burn’! These flashbacks make tax dodger Melissa Harris-Perry look even worse."

Chris Hayes' Show to Be Axed as MSNBC Shakeup Rumbles On

The far-left MSNBC is cutting its losses from the failing regressive agenda of the Obama interregnum.

Joy Reid and Ronan Farrow both got canned last night, and Chris Hayes is likely next. Not only that, Rachel Maddow will likely lose her prime-time 9:00pm slot as well.

See Lloyd Grove, at the Daily Beast, "After MSNBC Axes Ronan Farrow and Joy Reid's Shows, Is Chris Hayes Next?"

They suck. It's as simple as that.

MSNBC Morons Hilariously Censor Images of #CharlieHebdo Muhammad Cartoons

"Hey, we're a progressive network! We can't go around offending tender Muslim sensibilities. Besides, we could get killed!" --- MSNBC talking heads.

Icons of liberty over there. Truly courageous.

At NewsBusters, "MSNBC's Maddow Shows ‘Piss Christ’ But Not Latest ‘Charlie Hebdo’":
On MSNBC Tuesday night Rachel Maddow described the cover of the latest edition of Charlie Hebdo because, "NBC News will not allow us to show it to you." A different perspective than Maddow and MSNBC had in 2011 when showing the image of the “Piss Christ” photo by Andres Serrano.

"The cover is a cartoon of the prophet Mohammed shedding a tear beneath the words ‘all is forgiven’ he’s also holding a sign that says 'Je suis Charlie'", Maddow said on her program. "The reason I’m describing it to you rather than showing it to you – is because we operate under NBC News rules and NBC News will not allow us to show it to you."

On April 18, 2011 Maddow and her network had no difficulty showing and discussing the “Piss Christ” photo by Andres Serrano after it was destroyed in a museum in France by protestors upset with the image of a crucifix submerged in urine...
Because consistency and integrity, or something. Fucking morons.

More at Jihad Watch, "MSNBC blurs Charlie Hebdo cover during interview with contributor":
This represents a capitulation to the jihadists who murdered twelve people in the Charlie Hebdo offices. They committed mass murder in order to “avenge” Muhammad. They didn’t want people drawing Muhammad. They wanted the West to comply with Sharia blasphemy restrictions. And MSNBC, along with most others in the mainstream media, appears happy to accommodate them...
Say it ain't so, Joe!

One Kumbaya March Can't Stop Islamism or Cleanse Europe of Muslim Jew-Hatred

Oops!

Jonathan Tobin harshes the left's mellow, at Commentary:
The spectacle of more than a million people taking to the streets of Paris in protest against the attacks against the massacres at Charlie Hebdo and a kosher market is in and of itself a good thing. The condemnations of Islamist terror from a broad cross-section of French society and the willingness of many world leaders, including some from Arab and Muslim nations, to take part in the event is encouraging to those who have noted with dismay not only the assault on free speech but also the many attacks on Jews in Europe in recent years. This has led some to express the hope that the march will mark a turning point in the struggle against Islamist terror and anti-Semitism in which a unified European continent will somehow reject hatred. But while it would be wrong to react to what is being portrayed by the cable and broadcast networks as a transcendent kumbaya moment with pure cynicism, it is important that no one should think a march can by itself undo the wide support that is given Islamist ideology in the Arab world. Nor should we confuse bromidic statements by leaders with policies that will end the delegitimization of Israel and the Jews...

Oh My! Melissa Harris-Perry Dumbstruck as Jewish Forward Editor J.J. Goldberg Goes Off MSNBC Script on French Anti-Semitism

OMG this is too delectable!

At Pajamas, "Liberal Schools MSNBC News Host on Radical Islamism":
When Melissa Harris-Perry’s producers invited J.J. Goldberg on to speak about the Jewish community in France, they were probably expecting textbook politically correct responses from the editor at large of America’s largest left-wing Jewish newspaper, the Forward. Which is why it’s so funny to watch Harris-Perry attempt not to balk at Goldberg’s frank candor on the radical Islamist roots of anti-Semitism in France. “The anti-Semitism problem in France is not primarily a problem of anti-Semitism from French Muslims,” she rushes to clarify at 2:32. “There is a problem of anti-Semitism there, but it is not primarily a problem of Muslim versus Jewish populations there, but rather a question of – sort of — French citizens in the broadest sense.”

“Um, I don’t think so,” Goldberg begins before detailing in brief France’s dance with anti-Semitism over the past century, noting that the incidents happening now are “happening from the Muslim community.” He then rattles off a series of French leaders who are Jewish and have established bonds with the Israeli Jewish community. “The integration of Jews into France and the acceptance of Jews in France is very, very thorough,” he explains. He ends his segment by noting that 70% of Jews in France today have come from Sephardic countries of origin where they have experienced “tension with their Arab neighbors”.

Harris-Perry attempts to interrupt his scholarly explanation twice before giving in and going to the commercial break...
It's just a special --- and I do mean special --- little world of denial for the dolts at MSNBC.

Fire Rachel Maddow!

MSNBC's considering cancelling Ronan Farrow, which wouldn't be bad. But if you're going to can anyone it should be Rachel Maddow, the ultimate far-left hack whose show is a broken-record of GOP-bashing and tea party conspiracies. She's utterly ridiculous, and it shows in the ratings decline.

Here's the headline at Mediaite, "MSNBC Eyes Canceling Ronan Farrow Show Amidst Schedule Shakeup."

And see Ed Driscoll on the New York Times report on MSNBC's epic collapse, "MSNBC: ‘Dukakis After Dark’ Meets Groundhog Day."

Rula Jebreal 'TV Appearances Cancelled' After Slamming #MSNBC for 'Disgustingly Biased' Israel Coverage

Background at the Other McCain, "Is MSNBC Too Pro-Israel?"

Jebreal claims her "forthcoming TV appearances have been cancelled!"

I doubt it, actually. Her comments are tame compared to all the stuff for which MSNBC is constantly apologizing.

And besides, she gets hammered by Eli Lake, who says he's "baffled" by this woman's truly bizarre statements:

'Dumbass' Krystal Ball Pranked by Howard Stern Fan During Malaysian Crash Coverage

At Free Beacon, "Prank Caller Destroys MSNBC’s ‘The Cycle’."

And at Business Insider, "A Howard Stern Fan Pranked MSNBC During Malaysian Plane Crash Coverage":

MSNBC host Krystal Ball was pranked live on air Thursday during her coverage of the Malaysian flight crash in Ukraine — with an apparent fan of shock jock Howard Stern posing as a military expert only to make a crude joke and call Ball a "dumbass."

"I was looking out the window and I saw a projectile flying through the sky, and it would appear that the plane was shot down by a blast of wind from Howard Stern's ass," the prankster said.

Ball ignored the remark and continued her questioning.

"So it would appear that the plane was shot down. Can you tell us anything more from your military training of what sort of missile system that may have been coming from?" she asked.

"Boy you're a dumbass, aren't ya?" came the reply.
Yep, a true dullard, even by MSNBC's gutter-level standards.

Eric Cantor's Home Style — #VA07

An outstanding piece, from Sean Trende, at RealClearPolitics, "What Cantor's Loss and Graham's Win Mean":
In his political science classic, “Home Style: House Members in Their Districts,” Richard Fenno hypothesized that members of Congress have three goals: re-election, power in Washington, and enacting policy preferences. To pursue the second two goals, a member must achieve the first, and to do that, he or she must adopt a style that suits the district. If these images are not consistently reinforced, the incumbent will have trouble. Crucially, Fenno notes that the adoption of an effective home style involves a two-way communication process: Telling the constituents about oneself, but also listening to constituents. With the benefit of hindsight, we can probably apply this model to explain most of the Tea Party wins and losses over the past few years.

I have yet to read anything suggesting that Cantor had a good home style. His staff is consistently described as aloof, and his constituent service is lacking. This is consistent with my experience. Anecdotes are not data, but after passage of the Affordable Care Act, I called his office with a question about what autism therapies for my son would now be covered (I lived in Cantor’s district for six years). I never heard back. This surprised me, as constituent questions rarely go unanswered. I never once saw Cantor, not at county fairs, not at school board meetings, and not in the parades that would sometimes march past our house (we lived on a major thoroughfare). This isn’t to say that Cantor never did these things, only that they weren’t frequent enough to register; he wasn’t the stereotypical Southern politician whose face showed up at every event.

In short, Cantor seemed more focused on the second and third goals of a politician -- power and policy -- to the detriment of the first. I am guessing he didn’t realize he might have a problem until he was booed at a district meeting a month ago. If he’d run scared, the result might well have been different. But he didn’t, and he lost. This is really the big-picture message for GOP incumbents. You don’t have to remake yourself into a Tea Partier. But you do have to care.

Leftist Garance Franke-Ruta Smears Dave Brat Campaign Manager Zachary Werrell

"The Garance" is "sensationalizing" Zachary Werrell's Facebook postings, "David Brat campaign manager scrubs Facebook page after election":

Garance Franke-Ruta photo GaranceFrankeRuta5EfB0yrkSuNm_zps1751312e.jpg
The campaign manager for the tea party-backed Republican who ousted House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in one of the biggest upsets in congressional history is a 23-year-old class of 2013 Haverford College graduate who posted a slew of provocative opinions on a public Facebook page that was removed from view overnight following David Brat's victory.

From comparing George Zimmerman’s shooting of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin to abortion to calling for the abolition of the Food and Drug Administration and encouraging the adoption of the silver monetary standard, Zachary Werrell – one of just two paid staffers for the upstart campaign of Randolph-Macon College economics professor David Brat – sought in 2012 and 2013 to build a public profile as a socially conservative libertarian voice. The Facebook postings were either taken down or made private overnight Tuesday in the wake of Brat's win, but Yahoo News took screenshots of some of the remarks before they were removed from view. A cached version of Werrell's page remained available on Google as of midday Wednesday.
"The Garance" looks like a skeezy bimbo.

Sometime back Ann Althouse just destroyed "The Garance" in a Bloggingheads episode.

The left circled the wagons around "The Garance," who was clearly unable defend herself in a simple diavlog.

A total skanky progressive loser now tryna dog the victorious Dave Brat campaign. Pathetic.

Reid Epstein's Appalling Meme Suggesting Dave Brat Would Exterminate the Jews — #VA07

At Twitchy, "‘Just nasty’: What exactly is WSJ trying to suggest with this piece on Dave Brat?"

And from John Podhoretz, at Commentary, "An Appalling Cantor Meme":

That Dave Brat Would Exterminate the Jews As the commentariat rushes to find meta-meaning in the defeat of Eric Cantor last night—a difficult task, because his primary loss was clearly the result of several smaller factors that added up into one serious shellacking—there’s one that’s especially cheap and especially disgraceful. So disgraceful, in fact, that it’s only hinted at in either an easily denied or giggly sort of way. And that is the idea that Cantor lost in his district because he is a Jew.

Among the reasons adduced by the regrettable Norman Ornstein in the New York Daily News: “He was highly visible as the only Jewish Republican in the House, in a district with a strong evangelical presence.” The fact that Cantor has served the district as a Jew for 23 and a half years is not noted, nor is the fact that evangelicals are more likely to be philo- than anti-Semitic.

Reid Epstein of the Wall Street Journal proffered his own version in this cute set of sentences:  “David Brat, the Virginia Republican who shocked House Majority Leader Eric Cantor Tuesday, wrote in 2011 that Hitler’s rise ‘could all happen again, quite easily.’ Mr. Brat’s remarks, in a 2011 issue of Interpretation: A Journal of Bible and Theology, came three years before he defeated the only Jewish Republican in Congress.” How Brat’s invocation of Hitler relates to Cantor’s Judaism is not clear, but Epstein decided to link them, and the link is suggestive, and not in a good way.
No, not a good way at all. More like a leftist exterminationist way.

Also at the Other McCain, "Libertarians Are Hitler or Something."
