Don Perry, Chick-fil-A Vice President for Public Relations, Dies Unexpectedly — Progressives Celebrate on Twitter

The Los Angeles Times reports, "Chick-fil-A's PR chief dies suddenly amid gay-marriage imbroglio."

And the left's response at Fire Andrea Mitchell, "Left wingers celebrate the death of Chick-Fil-A spokesman Don Perry on Twitter." And Twitchy, "PR VP for Chick-fil-A has died; Left responds with viciousness."

Rosanne Barr's been aiming rapid-fire hate at Chick-fil-A, including wishing cancer on the people who eat the company's food. Apparently she's apologized, but there's still a lot of vile tweets in her timeline:
Plus, CNN has another report uploaded to YouTube, "Chick-Fil-A gets the boot."

And here's a commentary from Jack Nicas, at WSJ, "First Amendment Trumps Critics of Chick-fil-A" (via Google):
CHICAGO — The First Amendment is coming to the rescue of a chicken-sandwich chain that has drawn the ire of politicians outraged by its president's public opposition to gay marriage.

One by one, local officials here and in Boston have revised their comments regarding the entrepreneur's stance against gay marriage, tiptoeing between their disapproval of remarks he made on the subject and his right to say them.

Last week, Dan Cathy, president and chief operating officer of Chick-fil-A, a closely held company based in an Atlanta suburb that operates 1,600 fast-food restaurants in 39 states, said he opposed gay marriage and supported the "biblical definition of the family unit."

The comment sparked a public backlash that included same-sex "kiss-in" protests at Chick-fil-A restaurants and social-media campaigns to boycott the chain. Public officials from Boston to Chicago announced their opposition to the company's expansion in those cities.

Chicago Alderman Proco Moreno wrote in the Chicago Tribune Thursday, "Because of [Mr. Cathy's] ignorance, I will deny Chick-fil-A a permit to open a restaurant in my ward."

On Friday, Mr. Moreno conceded that free-speech rights trump his authority on the issue, and shifted his focus from Mr. Cathy's remarks to potential discriminatory policies at the fast-food chain. He said he would reopen talks with Chick-fil-A, but pledged to fight the company until it amends or clarifies its anti-discrimination policy.

Chick-fil-A, which promotes its Christian values and is closed Sundays, said in a statement that the "culture and service tradition in our restaurants is to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect—regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender."

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino have similarly sought to clarify earlier statements that they opposed Chick-fil-A, saying they never intended to legally block the chain's efforts for new restaurants in their cities.

"The mayor simply said that Chick-fil-A's [president] does not share Chicago's values," Mr. Emanuel's spokeswoman said in a statement. "If they meet all the usual requirements, then they can open their restaurant just like any other business." The clarifications comes as legal experts said there are no legal grounds to block a company's land-use application because of an executive's political views.

Alan Weinstein, a professor of law at Cleveland State University who specializes on the intersection of land-use law and constitutional issues, said he has seen officials try to use zoning laws to block adult stores or religious institutions, but never a commercial enterprise because of political views. He said that beyond the First Amendment, "in the land-use sphere, the government has no legitimate interest" in the political views of an applicant.
Yeah, the land-use angle has really messed up the idiot left-wing fascists. For some stupid reason, the progs are are now justifying unconstitutional discrimination against Chick-fil-A because Republicans have (allegedly) passed local ordinances against abortion clinics. Or something? It's ridiculously idiotic, but that's the hate-added homosexuals for you. The argument might make sense if Republicans were discriminating against businesses that supported abortion rights --- that is, there's no valid comparison here, and hence it's simply a way for progressives to say, "Yeah, stick it to the f-kers. They've been jackin' us on abortion so f-k 'em." See the socialist idiot (and fascist idiot, apparently) Freddie deBoer at Balloon Juice, "A Simple Observation on Chick-Fil-A."

Homosexuals Plan 'National Same-Sex Kiss Day' to Protest Chick-fil-A

At OC Weekly, "Gay Rights Advocates to Protest Chick-Fil-A With Same-Sex Kissing In Front of Restaurants."

This whole thing has gotten way out of hand.

Kissing
Recall that first it was Boston Mayor Thomas Menino who went authoritarian on Chick-fil-A. See Legal Insurrection, "When political correctness runs amok, it will look like the Mayor of Boston."

Now we have the idiots in Chicago following suit, at Volokh, "No Building Permits for Opponent of Same-Sex Marriage." (Via Memeorandum.) And check Jeff Goldstein, "“Alderman to Chick-fil-A: No deal”":
So now a Chicago petty tyrant pol joins with the bigoted mayor of Boston to declare that, to the contemporary “liberal,” tolerance is nothing more than policing conformity of thought — and that he will proudly cast himself as intolerant of intolerance!
Well, yeah. Gay rights advocates are the biggest bigots of them all.

More at Weasel Zippers, "Another Dem Politician Moves to Ban Chick-Fil-A Restaurants – Update: Mayor Rahm Emanuel Backs Ban, “Chick-Fil-A Values Are Not Chicago Values”…"

Look, this is what the Democrat Party has come to in America. Even the far-left Los Angles Times called out the left's bigotry and bullying, "Free speech and Chick-fil-A":
The Muppets are well within their rights to shun Chick-fil-A after the chain restaurant donated to anti-gay groups and its president, Dan Cathy, made statements implying a strong, biblically-based stand against same-sex marriage. They're private, um, puppets. But public officials have a responsibility to carry out their ministerial tasks fairly and evenhandedly — and to uphold the principle of free speech — whether or not they like a business executive's social or political stances. We disagree heartily with Cathy, but are far more troubled by the reaction of Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino, who vowed to block Chick-fil-A's effort to open an outlet in that city.

Boycotts are a time-honored way for consumers and groups to express their views through their spending power, though it's worth noting that just as Americans have split along more divisive lines politically, so have their shopping habits. Some people won't travel to Utah because of Mormon support for Proposition 8; others won't step foot in aJ.C. Penneybecause of its ads featuring same-sex couples. As both a private citizen and a prominent public figure, Menino is welcome to abstain from fried chicken sandwiches and urge others to do likewise.

It's a different matter if he attempts to trample the free-speech rights of others by using the power of his office to fight against a business license for Chick-fil-A. Menino suggested that it would be appropriate to block the chain from opening in Boston because Cathy's views amount to discrimination. That would rightly apply if Chick-fil-A were to refuse service to gay customers; the city has a right and an obligation to prevent discriminatory actions against its residents and visitors. But there's no evidence that any such thing has occurred.

Protesters Disrupt Chick-fil-A Grand Opening in Laguna Hills

At the O.C. Register, "Gay youths protest at Laguna Hills Chick-fil-A."

This is how stupid these people are:
Locally, Cathy's comments prompted members of Youth Empowered to Act, a group with The Center Orange County, to plan the protest.

The youth group decided Chick-fil-A's latest Orange County restaurant opening would be "the perfect time and place to bring attention to the discriminatory policies and beliefs of Chick-fil-A," executive director Kevin O'Grady said.

Youth program director Laura Kanter said the purpose of the protest is to let consumers know "where the charitable arm of this corporation sends its money.

"We want to alert consumers that if they're spending their money at Chick-fil-A, some of that money can be spent against LGBT people and their families," she said.

Kanter noted donations to organizations such as the Family Research Council by WinShape Foundation, a nonprofit charity started in 1984 by Cathy's parents, Chick-fil-A founder Truett Cathy and his wife, Jeannette.

The Family Research Council "believes that homosexual conduct is harmful to the persons who engage in it and to society at large," according to its website.
So far no one has demonstrated that Chick-fil-A discriminates. And of course, the owner is free to his political opinions, and he can contribute to any interest group he so pleases. There's video from the Register as well: "Chick-fil-A cancels camp out amidst protest." And see NBC News Los Angeles, "Orange County Chick-fil-A Opening Greeted by Gay-Rights Protesters."

In related news Glenn Greenwald is pushing back against the fascism in Chicago, "Rahm Emanuel’s dangerous free speech attack" (via Memeorandum):
It’s always easy to get people to condemn threats to free speech when the speech being threatened is speech that they like. It’s much more difficult to induce support for free speech rights when the speech being punished is speech they find repellent. But having Mayors and other officials punish businesses for the political and social views of their executives — regardless of what those views are — is as pure a violation of the First Amendment’s guarantee of free speech as it gets, and beyond that, is genuinely dangerous.
RTWT.

Scott Lemieux at LGM agrees with Greenwald, although his commenters really, really hate Chick-fil-A (and would like to shut 'em down):
[CEO] Cathey has, in fact, committed [discriminatory] acts. Donating money to organizations that seek to deny me equal rights under the law is an act, and if he and his company and his precious little dog suffer for it, tough shit. If conservatives wanna dish it out, then they can damn well take it.

Fuck him, his chickens, and the drooling Jesus goons who support him.
It goes back and forth like that at the post

Now, somewhat surprisingly, Steve M. at No More Mr. Nice Blog agrees with Greenwald only on practical grounds, and thus disagrees with the First Amendment argument (which shows Steve's a fascist). And here's idiot left-wing fascist Tom Hilton in the comments:
I basically agree with you on the practicalities of the thing. (On the other hand, I think if it does come down to that war the yahoos lose out way more than we do, simply because the most economically dynamic areas of the country are mostly very liberal.)

But Greenwald is, in typically libertardian fashion, full of shit on the principle of the thing. Advocating discrimination is fundamentally not the same thing as advocating anti-discrimination--and in certain contexts, the law actually recognizes that (e.g., the law does not protect speech that creates a hostile environment for a protected class).
Again, how stupid can one be? Boston and Chicago are discriminating against Chick-fil-A, on the basis of political speech no less, constitutionally protected. The progs are going batsh*t crazy on this, and it's really disgusting. Stupid and disgusting. And fascist.

MSNBC Hacks Attack 'Hate Groups' Who Turned Out for Nationwide Chick-fil-A Buycott

This is the full MSNBC hack-tacular!

You've got the country's biggest civil rights hypocrite Al "Tawana Brawley" Sharpton, with the bonus appearance of token "GOP" gay marriage expert Megan "Don't Look at My Big Boobs" McCain. And then throw in Jonathan Capehart, from the Washington Post's deep-bench of political correctness, and what could go wrong?!!

And here's the thing: Reports show some reasonable gay individuals who support Chick-fil-A's First Amendment rights. See the Los Angeles Times, "'I am gay and I support Chick-fil-A,' California teen says." And the customer response yesterday was nothing less than a massive repudiation of the left's bigotry and thuggery, as sales at Chick-fil-A were through the roof:
Steve Robinson, executive vice president of marketing for Chick-fil-A, said in a statement that although the company would not release exact sales numbers, Wednesday's totals were "unprecedented."

"We are very grateful and humbled by the incredible turnout of loyal Chick-fil-A customers on Aug. 1 at Chick-fil-A restaurants around the country," Robinson said. "We congratulate local Chick-fil-A owner/operators and their team members for striving to serve each and every customer with genuine hospitality."
Some outlets had so much business they had to close early because they ran out of food.

Frankly, this has been one of the most remarkable repudiations of progressivism since, well, since the Wisconsin recall! And the leftist establishment is bumbling its response. As Glenn Reynolds indicates, Jim Romanesko had to pull the story of a reporter who claimed to have been allegedly "shocked" at all the hatred and homophobic rants he heard while reporting from Chick-fil-A outlets. See: "Reporter Pulls Rant About Chick-fil-A Customers."

So there's your context to Al Sharpton's segment, attacking the GOP as "hateful bigots" simply for supporting a Christian business executive's right to freedom of speech and freedom of religion.

BONUS: From John Hawkins at Right Wing News:
If I were the Democrats, I’d be sweating twice as much as I was before Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day because this wasn’t all about chicken, my friend. It was about Christians and conservatives in this country who’re tired of being shoved around. If people will turn out like this all across the country to get a little chicken and send a little message, just imagine what it’s going to be like in November. Barack Obama is doomed.
Sounds good to me. More chicken!

Mayor Edwin Lee Warns Chick-fil-A on Coming to San Francisco — Lying Fascist Repsac3 Denies It, Shills for Left's Anti-Free Speech Thugs

So far all the reports out indicate that San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee has warned Chick-fil-A about opening a store in the city.

See the San Franscisco Chronicle, "Mayor Ed Lee warns Chick-fil-A against coming to San Francisco":
San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee has joined in the growing chorus condemning Chick-fil-A for the national chicken chain’s much-publicized anti-gay views.

After mayors in Boston and Chicago recently expressed their disapproval with Chick-fil-A and its intolerance, Lee followed suit and took to his Twitter account late yesterday, firing off two successive tweets. The first one conveys his disappointment with the chain’s lack of values, and the second one takes it up a notch, suggesting that Chick-fil-A don’t even think about opening in San Francisco.
The mayor's tweets are embedded at the report.

It's clearly threatening. And the Los Angeles Times agrees, "San Francisco is the third city to tell Chick-fil-A: Keep out":
First Boston. Then Chicago.

The next city to tell Chick-fil-A to keep out? San Francisco.

Edwin M. Lee, mayor of the progressive city, tweeted Thursday night: "Very disappointed #ChickFilA doesn't share San Francisco's values & strong commitment to equality for everyone."

He also added a warning to his subsequent tweet: "Closest #ChickFilA to San Francisco is 40 miles away & I strongly recommend that they not try to come any closer."

Until Thursday, San Francisco had stayed mum on the debate, which began when Chick-fil-A's president, Dan Cathy, went on the record as saying his Atlanta-based chicken chain operated on biblical values and opposed same-sex marriage.
Pretty straightforward, obviously.

But not for fascist hate-blogger Walter James Casper III, a.k.a Repsac3, who attacks Aaron Worthing on Twitter with denials of the threat:

The despicable hater Repsac3 is lying again, no surprise.

A threat does not have to warn of physical harm. "Threat" could be financial injury, for example. In other words, a threat is any kind of caution, as Dictionary.com points out:
threat   [thret]
noun
1. a declaration of an intention or determination to inflict punishment, injury, etc., in retaliation for, or conditionally upon, some action or course; menace: He confessed under the threat of imprisonment.
2. an indication or warning of probable trouble: The threat of a storm was in the air.
3. a person or thing that threatens.
There's nothing there about a threat requiring violence. But that doesn't matter to Walter James Casper III. He lies about everything.

And he organizes his hate campaigns with others online:

That's something I've mentioned previously, regarding Repsac's intimidation and stalking campaign against this blog. See: "Intent to Annoy and the Fascist Hate-Blogging Campaign of Walter James Casper III."

He's a liar and an Internet predator. People should avoid him, block him on Twitter, and report him to the proper authorities.

Chick-fil-A Makes Front-Page at Los Angeles Times — Gets Slammed as Out of Step With 'Mainstream' Corporate Practices

Okay, following up on my post yesterday, "Did Media Coverage Ignore Chick-fil-A 'National Appreciation Day'?"

So here comes the Times with its front-page piece, on how Chick-fil-A's a corporate freak, or something. See, "Chick-fil-A Official Has Little Company in the Corporate World."

And here's the online version at latimes.com, "Many businesses seek favor among LGBT customers":
Kiss More Chiks
Chick-fil-APresident Dan Cathy's public opposition to gay marriage has landed him in a lonely corner of corporate America.

While the fast-food chicken chain has inflamed gay organizations and their supporters nationwide, many companies are going out of their way to court those groups.

J.C. Penneythis year hired lesbian talk show host Ellen DeGeneres as its spokeswoman and featured same-sex couples in its catalogs. Kraft Foods recently posted a photo of a rainbow-hued Oreo cookie to its Facebook page.

Bank of America and nearly 40 other companies now offer tax relief to gay employees — triple the number of firms with the same option last year. In Washington state, Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos and his wife last month donated $2.5 million to back a gay marriage ballot initiative already endorsed by Microsoft, Starbucks and Nike.

Business donations to Los Angeles gay pride events, including a festival and a short parade, have doubled in five years to $300,000 last year, when Bud Light, Johnson & Johnson andCoca-Colawere sponsors.

It's not hard to see why. Estimates peg the self-identified lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender demographic at about 3.8% of the American population — or roughly 9 million people. Their buying power is expected to reach $790 billion this year, according to Witeck Communications, a marketing firm specializing in LGBT issues.

They're not shy about spending, dropping more than $60 a week each on restaurants, according to a 2010 report from Community Marketing Inc. More than a quarter of gays and lesbians bought a high-definition TV that year.

Nationwide, more Americans now support same-sex marriage than oppose it, according to recent surveys from the Pew Research Center. Backing is particularly strong among young people, a demographic that advertisers are keen to reach. LGBT characters are gaining prominence in popular entertainment, with more major roles in music, television, movies and even comic books.

As customers shift with the cultural tide, many formerly conservative companies are doing the same.

"Corporate America is definitely following the trends, reading the tea leaves," said Jason Snyder, an assistant professor at UCLA Anderson School of Management. "It's more symbolic of what's happening in society — that supporting gay marriage is becoming a less risky or taboo position."

Gay consumers also tend to react faster and more forcefully to slights. They pay attention to which companies promote diversity and lend support to same-sex causes — factors that heavily influence where their dollars go, according to the Community Marketing report.

And the LGBT population is often highly organized in using Twitter and Facebook to pull together mass petitions and boycotts within hours. More than 14,000 people signed up on Facebook for National Same Sex Kiss Day atChick-fil-Aon Friday, an event arranged mostly online.
The Times, to its credit, had good coverage yesterday of the left's vandalism of the Torrance Chick-fil-A location. But as noted, its coverage of the Wednesday buycott was relegated to the business section, not the front-page.

And so look at this today: A total of 14,000 people organized on Facebook "within hours"? Well, blow me down! And how many people turned out around the country on Wednesday to support Chick-fil-A's corporate practices? The company won't release exact details, although it did say that the sales were "unprecedented." That is news. That is front-page news. We'll see how it goes at some of the rest of the national media today. Here's Thursday's report at the Weekly Standard, "Mainstream Media Blacks Out Chick-fil-A Story?" And at AoSHQ, "Media Blacked Out Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day":
Okay, in the post below, I was going to claim the media blacked it out, but I didn't know if that was true; for one thing, I don't watch the media, so I had no idea. For another, I saw a stray mention in a comment or on Twitter that it was being covered on some local broadcast. So I thought maybe they were covering it.

Nope. The major papers embargoed the actual news.
More later.

I'll choke on my chicken if a photo of homosexuals kissing makes the front-page a major metropolitan daily.

P.S. Not mentioned by the Times is how gay marriage referendums have failed each and every time they've been placed before the voters at the state level --- 32 times by the latest counts. Kudos to Jeff Bezos for putting his corporate money where his mouth is. We'll see if he's on the right side of history when Washington state voters head to the polls in November.

Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day

It's today.

See the Christian Post, "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day: Half a Million to Show Up at Restaurants."

Bonus: Jeez, half a million! Chick-fil-A's not hurting for more customers, despite what the hate-addled progressives say. See Business Week, "Hidden Chick-fil-A Billionaires Hatched as Value Soars":

Chick-fil-A generated $492 million in earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization on revenue of $1.12 billion in 2011, PrivCo said. It added that the company’s 44 percent Ebitda margin was “virtually unheard of in the restaurant industry.”

The chain has the biggest sales per unit in fast-food, according to QSR Magazine. In 2011, the company generated gross sales of $2.9 million per location, outpacing the average unit sales of runner-up McDonald’s Corp. (MCD) (MCD) by $400,000, the magazine said in its August 2012 issue.

PrivCo said it valued Chick-fil-A at $4.5 billion using peer multiples of Oak Brook, Illinois-based McDonald’s, Dublin, Ohio-based Wendy’s Co. (WEN) (WEN) and closely held Wichita, Kansas-based Wil-Ken Enterprises Inc., which operates Popeye’s Chicken and Biscuits restaurants. The calculation factored in the company’s 3-year annual growth rate and Ebitda margins, the report said.

The chicken chain has a value of at least $4.3 billion, according to data compiled by Bloomberg, based on the average enterprise value-to-Ebitda and price-to-earnings multiples of four publicly traded peers: McDonald’s, Wendy’s, San Diego-based Jack In the Box Inc. (JACK) (JACK) and Louisville, Kentucky-based Yum! Brands Inc. (YUM) (YUM), the owner of the KFC and Taco Bell brands.

“It is a very impressive business story,” said Sam Hamadeh, CEO of PrivCo, in a telephone interview. “Whatever people think of the politics, when you look at how we quantify the amount of money they are forgoing every year by being closed on Sundays, you have to respect that.”

Truett Cathy keeps Chick-fil-A stores closed on Sundays as “a testament to his faith in God,” according to the company’s website. Jerry Johnston, a spokesman for the company, didn’t return a phone call seeking comment.
It's a huge and growing business, and while it may lose a few fascists --- people like Walter James Casper III --- it's clearly a phenomenally successful concern with a huge constituency of people of good faith and decency.

Wendy's Courts Public Relations Disaster: Implies Chick-fil-A Doesn't Serve All Customers

It keeps getting worse for the left-wing fascists.

Wendy's restaurants has stepped in it. See Business Insider, "A Bunch Of Wendy's Restaurants Put Up Signs That Say 'We Stand With Chick-Fil-A'."

Wendy's

But then they backtracked on Twitter:

Hmm, I guess they don't back Chick-fil-A after all, and Wendy's should probably get off Twitter:

Yeah, the Wendy's search on Twitter is on fire.

And it's not just an errant tweet, apparently. Towleroad says it got this email response from "Amanda Domyan" in Wendy's public relations department:
"This is one independent franchisee’s personal opinion. We are proud to serve customers of varied races, backgrounds, cultures and sexual orientation, with different beliefs and values. Bearing that in mind, this franchisee has decided to remove the messages from his restaurant signs."
Wendy's contact page is here.

Amanda Domyan is on Twitter here, located in Columbus, Ohio, where Wendy's corporate offices are located.

More from Dana Loesch, in any case:

And at Think Progress, "The Chick-fil-A Controversy Is About Religious Bullying, Not Chicken Sandwiches":
There is a very obvious reason why all of the conservatives defending Chick-fil-A only talk about it as defending “traditional marriage,” ignoring president Dan Cathy’s vitriolic comments and the company’s odious donations. They want to minimize the validity for outrage and reduce the issue to one of mere First Amendment privilege. Conceding to that spin allows the true harm of funding ex-gay ministries and anti-gay hate groups to go unchecked. Chick-fil-A and its president Dan Cathy are nothing short of religious bullies, and attacking the LGBT community for standing up for themselves is an expression of either ignorance in regards to Chick-fil-A’s offenses, apathy for LGBT equality, laziness, or a combination of all three.
Cathy's comments weren't "vitriolic."

Being conservative on marriage is apparently "anti-gay bullying."

These people are sick. They will attempt to shut down Chick-fil-A and any other business that doesn't toe the left's fascist line.

Homosexual 'National Kiss-In Day' Small Compared to Chick-fil-A 'National Appreciation Day'

Hey, maybe the homosexuals weren't too comfortable about the public sex part.

At the Los Angeles Times, "Chick-fil-A 'Kiss in' protest small compared to appreciation day."

Gay Chick-fil-A
At a Chick-fil-A in Torrance where vandals painted the words "Tastes Like Hate" on the side of the restaurant Thursday night, the "National Same-Sex Kiss Day" was off to a slow start.

A steady parade of cars made their way into the parking lot as diners strolled in and out of the restaurant. Some held signs that read "Jesus is the only answer." Many said they were there in support of Chick-fil-A and denounced the vandalism.

"It's a civil debate; it has nothing to do with defacing someone's property," said Alfonzo Rachel, 40, a Torrance resident who said he dines at the restaurant regularly.

Cole Donahoo, operator of the Torrance restaurant, declined to comment about Friday's vandalism.

"I'm just trying to operate a business," he said.

Donahoo said he did see a great turnout at the restaurant, at 182nd Street and Hawthorne Boulevard, for Wednesday's national "Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day" event, championed by conservative talk show host Mike Huckabee.
That would be AlfonZo Rachel, on Twitter here.

Don't Cross the Progressive Forces of Hatred

Mark Steyn's commentary on the left's assault on Chick-fil-A, "Don't cross the forces of tolerance."
To modify Lord Acton, power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely, but aldermanic power corrupts all der more manically. Proco "Joe" Moreno is Alderman of the First Ward of Chicago, and last week, in a city with an Aurora-size body count every weekend, his priority was to take the municipal tire-iron to the owners of a chain of fast-food restaurants. "Because of this man's ignorance," said Alderman Moreno, "I will now be denying Chick-fil-A's permit to open a restaurant in the First Ward."

"This man's ignorance"? You mean, of the City of Chicago permit process? Zoning regulations? Health and safety ordinances? No, Alderman Moreno means "this man's ignorance" of the approved position on same-sex marriage. "This man" is Dan Cathy, president of Chick-fil-A, and a few days earlier he had remarked that "we are very much supportive of the family – the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives" – which last part suggests he is as antipathetic to no-fault divorce and other heterosexual assaults on matrimony as he is to more recent novelties such as gay marriage. But no matter. Alderman Moreno does not allege that Chick-fil-A discriminates in its hiring practices or in its customer service. Nor does he argue that business owners should not be entitled to hold opinions: The Muppets, for example, have reacted to Mr. Cathy's observations by announcing that they're severing all ties with Chick-fil-A. Did you know that the Muppet Corporation has a position on gay marriage? Well, they do. But Miss Piggy and the Swedish Chef would be permitted to open a business in the First Ward of Chicago because their opinion on gay marriage happens to coincide with Alderman Moreno's. It's his ward, you just live in it. When it comes to lunch options, he's the chicken supremo, and don't you forget it.

Well, they're despicable fascists. More here.

Chick-fil-A: The Left's Ominous Attack On Religious Liberty

From Jay Richards and James Robinson, at the Wall Street Journal, "The Chicken Inquisition":
The campaign against Chick-fil-A may be a more ominous attack on religious freedom than the Affordable Care Act's mandates. ObamaCare would force millions of Americans to fund actions they find morally reprehensible but leaves them free to denounce it. The chicken inquisition, by contrast, directly targets religious speech itself.

Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy recently dared to describe his views on marriage during a radio program. "I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,'" he said. "I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to redefine what marriage is about."

For this, activist organizations are trying to brand Chick-fil-A as "anti-gay" and intimidate other businesspeople into thinking twice before exercising their freedom of speech.

The agitators chose a most improbable villain. Dan Cathy is the son of the 91-year-old founder of the company, S. Truett Cathy. Truett is an entrepreneur and philanthropist who is also a committed Christian. His fast-food chain is famous not only for tasty chicken sandwiches but also for being closed on Sundays. The Cathys don't think of their company as a "Christian company," but they have sought to run their business on "biblical principles." This gives them a special interest in families.

"We are very much supportive of the family—the biblical definition of the family unit," Mr. Cathy explained recently in an interview with the Baptist Press. "We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."

In virtually every culture, marriage is an institution involving a public commitment between a man and a woman. The complementary nature of men and women points to the unique purpose of marriage: to bear and raise children. One can recognize this fact and so conclude that "same-sex marriage" is an oxymoron—without being "anti-gay."

Mr. Cathy and many other Americans see marriage as a sacred institution. As a result, the campaign against Mr. Cathy is not just an attack on speech but on religious speech.

Walter James Casper III, Hate-Blogger and Internet Stalker, Harasses Gay-Politics Activist Evan Hurst on Twitter

This is why hate-blogger Walter James Casper III, a.k.a. Repsac3, is blocked from my blog --- and this is why the evil "Hatesac" has been exposed, repudiated, and blocked all over the right wing blogosphere. When Zilla put up a huge "roll call" of conservatives supporting me against workplace intimidation, Hatesac3 infiltrated her comments and was promptly banned. As I wrote at the time: "RACIST = REPSAC's a nut case. A raving hatemonger and lunatic."

So now it turns out that Hatesac3 is an equal-opportunity predator. There's this guy, Evan Hurst, who is the Director of Social Media at Truth Wins Out, an extreme far-left blog pushing homosexual rights. He seems like a reasonable guy. But right on cue, Hatesac3 launched a Twitter campaign stalking him after looking to leach a copy of an article Hurst posted on Chick-fil-A:

The entry at Truth Wins Out has been taken down, as perhaps not defending the left's hateful fascist attacks on Chick-fil-A. But Hatesac3 wants it anyways, to fuel his deranged Internet predations, no doubt. After Hurst basically blew off Hatesac3 as a nuisance, our infamous progressive stalker started berating the dude:

Mr. Hurst has not dropped out of sight, as indicated by his Twitter feed. So perhaps he's just trying to be polite in the hopes that deranged obsessive Hatesac3 will just let it got. Mr. Hurst explained that he'd just been swamped, and as it's a fresh week, maybe he'll still forward that piece to the despicable Hatesac3. Seriously, after that much harassment, I'd just send it to the f-king criminal Hatesac3 just to get him off my back. Either that, or I'd notify the authorities. Look at that deranged Internet harassment. For crying out loud, Hatesac3, get a life motherf-ker!

Atheist for #LGBT Rights Says Chick-fil-A 'Harms Mor Gays'

From Randall Reynolds on Twitter and Tumblr:

Chick-fil-A
Amazing isn't it? So far progressive have produced not a shred of evidence that Chick-fil-A discriminates. Indeed, in his interview that kicked off the faux-controversy, Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy never even mentioned homosexuality or gay marriage. All he said was "guily as charged" when asked if he supported the traditional conception of marriage, and he mentioned biblical foundations for the family. Mark Steyn had the perfect report at his piece, "The Tolerance Enforcers: They’re ever more intolerant of anything less than total ideological homogeneity." And see J.D. Dyer, at Patheos, "Chick-Fil-A Is neither Hateful, Intolerant, nor Anti-Gay":
The premise behind the political anger being stirred up against Chick-Fil-A is basically from kindergarten: if you don't agree with me, you're hateful and you hate me. But in the world of adult responsibility, the very basis for freedom of conscience—intellectual and religious freedom—is freedom of contradictory expression. What demagogues today call "hatred" and "intolerance" is actually the essence of freedom: people being able to hold and advocate their own views, unmolested, no matter how much others dislike those views.
RTWT. And also Larry Schmidt, in the letters at USA Today:
It seems as if people on the left don't approve of free speech unless it is in line with their beliefs. They call for boycotts of companies that espouse opinions other than their own. This has got to stop. This is the United States of America, where everyone has the right to free speech.
Right.

Now, if the left could just curtail the right to freedom of speech they'd be cooking. And believe me, they're working on it!

Hateful Progressive Berates Young Woman at Chick-fil-A Drive-Up Window

The video was pulled at Gateway Pundit last night, "AWFUL!… Hateful Leftist Abuses Young Woman Working the Chick-fil-A Window (Video) …UPDATED."

But it's back up now. Watch it.

And see Twitchy, "Douche of the day: Tolerance bully proudly harasses young woman at Chick-fil-A window."

Plus, Ace of Spades HQ makes a go of it:

Blazing Cat Fur has it as well:
Liberal douche rolls up to a Chick-fil-A drive through so he can berate a teenaged girl about gay marriage. This is an object lesson in things you should not post on YouTube.
And following the links takes us to Toronto's Globe and Mail, and from the comments there:
The furore was not set off by Dan Cathy of Chick-fil-A. It was set off by all the arrogant politically correct leftist commentators who want to shut up the expression of any opinion except their own.
Exactly.

Hollywood Homosexual Takes Credit for 'Tastes Like Hate' Vandalism in Torrance, California

As I've mentioned previously, these are homosexual criminal values.

At the Los Angeles Times, "Chick-fil-A vandalism investigated by police in Torrance":

Chick-fil-A Kissing Day
Huge crowds turned out Wednesday in a show of support for company President Dan Cathy, who ignited a national debate by publicly expressing his opposition to same-sex marriage. Critics have also said the company supports causes harmful to gays and lesbians.

Denise Spencer, who visited the Torrance restaurant Friday, said that she was sad to see the vandalism and that it hurt the message of tolerance that gay marriage proponents are pushing.

"The president of the company has the right to say what he feels, just like gays and lesbians do, but when you destroy someone's property ... it only creates negativity," Spencer said.

A gay artist took responsibility for the graffiti in an interview with the Huffington Post on Friday. "Everybody is entitled to free speech, but it seems like for the gay tribe, this is more of an issue of equal rights -- human rights," Manny Castro told the site. "I'm against what these people stand for, what this company stands for. They're trying to take away what little rights we already have."

On Twitter, 'Tolerant' Progressives Send Death Wishes to Chick-fil-A Supporters

They're relentless.

At Twitchy, "Libs support Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day … because ‘Bible thumpers’ might choke on their food."
As Twitchy reported earlier, Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day has been a huge success. Supporters of free speech, tasty chicken and religious freedom are turning out in droves.

Even as many progressive tolerance tyrants cling bitterly to their failed Chick-fil-A boycott, some are actually encouraging conservatives to “eat mor chikin” … on the off-chance it might kill them.
