Ahmed Ghailani Verdict is Shame of Terror-Appeasing Left

Leftist John Cole is brief and to the point, "The System Worked." Give diabolical killers the same rights as U.S. citizens, and forget about achieving justice for those murdered by heinous acts of terrorism. Yeah, that oughta work. See LAT, "U.S. Civilian Court Acquits Ex-Guantanamo Detainee of All Major Terrorism charges," and at NYT, "Terror Verdict Tests Obama’s Strategy on Trials."

So while leftists are cheering how well the "system worked," more sober analysts have decried the verdict. For example, at Weekly Standard, "Ghailani Verdict a Miscarriage of Justice," at Pajamas Media, "Holder Strikes Out in First Gitmo Civilian Trial, " and at Commentary, "The Ghailani Debacle":
Once again, the Obama team has revealed itself to be entirely incompetent and has proved, maybe even to themselves, the obvious: the Bush administration had it right. And in fact, maybe we should do away with both civilian trials and military tribunals and just hold these killers until hostilities end. You know, like they do in wars.
Eminently true, but clueless leftists continue to push back, to say nothing of the White House: "Senior Administration Official Defends Ghailani Trial, Verdict."

The US government tortured Ghailani. That's why much testimony was thrown out.

He's still facing 20 years in jail.

Besides, the greatest threat to our freedom and security is a Federal government that claims the power to kill anyone, anywhere without constraint. Government must be kept within tight boundaries.

Holder's "Justice" Department couldn't prosecute Hitler.

This has to be the most incompetent administration in this nation's history.

And I hate to tell you Old Yeller Belly, but this worthless POS wasn't tortured.

What they should have done is thrown his worthless ass up against a wall and shot him outright, then sent whatever was left back to his fellow camel-washers.

The Soviets did something similar once upon a time, and the jihadists left them alone.

Dave,

Ghailani was tortured. As the presiding judge noted, even a military tribunal, acting on the manual for military commissions, would also have had to bar testimony improperly and illegally obtained by torture.

And I don't want to live in a country like the Soviet Union.

So who's the leftist apologist now?

So you've got a problem with this trial which handed him a sentence of 20 to life and would prefer the previous system which let 520 Gitmo inmates go free without trial, prosecuted only a couple and they only got sentences of a few months each.

Yeah, keep talking about the left being appeasers of terrorists, as though this doesn't speak for itself.

So Ghailani was "tortured" eh? How, by waterboarding?

GOOD!

The Constitution is not a suicide pact. If you catch a high value terrorist, you make him talk.

Old Rebel is just another useful idiot assigned to the dustbin of history.

Martin D - Hey idiot, he was found not guilty of 284 counts and only guilty of one. In other words, he damn near walked

More to it, we are engaged in a War of Ideas with the Islamists.

They see this as the supreme humiliation of the United States. They're rolling on the ground laughing at what idiots we are and thinking that we're ripe for the picking.

This will be seen int the Islamic world as a terrible humiliation of the United States and a sign from Allah that he is on their side.

They couldn't care less that Ghailani will be in prison the rest of his life. To them that's completely irrelevant because to them he will get his reward in heaven, which is far far better than being let free.

My solution is no trials for any of them, and we just keep the terrorists in Gitmo until the war is over, which conveniently be long after they're dead of old age.

If terrorists believe that they will get their reward in Heaven then they should be subjected to that which will keep them out of Heaven. On the battlefield, in prisons and wherever they are caught or housed.
If their version of their religion condones their actions then that version should also be used to negate it. One either uses the "stick" against them or takes the "stick" away.
