David Hillman, Swash Zone Libel-Blogger, Wishes GOP Happy Labor Day: 'F*** You, Republicans!!!'

I thought progs were supposed to be all about civility? Seriously. A couple of co-nihilists even call out David Hillman, a.k.a. (O)CT(O)PUS, in the comments, and the libel-blogging loser offers this pathetically hypocritical response:

Frankly, I expected a negative response to this post, and undoubtedly there will be more criticism to come … even, I suspect, from fellow creatures of the Swash Zone. Why did I post this, you ask?

Yes, the GOP has been ruthless; and no, I never wanted to stoop this low.

However, the American public is paying a terrible price with no end in sight. Broken marriages, broken families, and blighted neighborhoods due to lost jobs, lost homes, and depravation unworthy of this country. Real human suffering, yet the Republicans think balancing the Federal budget is more important than human health, safety and welfare. Worst of all, Republicans are holding the nation hostage to gain every possible partisan advantage - rather than addressing the full scope of this human catastrophe. I call this a callous disregard bordering on evil!

Republicans seek the elimination of these programs: The Departments of Education and Health and Human Services, the EPA, FEMA, Medicare, Social Security, all public defined-benefit pension and retirement accounts, union rights, food safety inspections, and now ... Hurricane Hunter flights.

HOW CAN ANYONE REMAIN CIVIL ANY LONGER? I can’t and I won’t! Mutual respect has won us nothing. If pushback is what it takes, then pushback is what they’ll get.

Sheesh. That ought to make Thomas Hobbes proud, nasty and brutish, you think??!!

But despair not my good conservatives! The thread turns supportive, and (O)CT(O) gets some combative huzzahs from Captain 'Can't Go Long' Fogg:

For my part, I think the moral, decent, modest high road goes nowhere, as much as it pains me to say that. If someone is going to rob me, I can't afford to worry about getting my clothes wrinkled and muddy. If we are fighting for our lives and freedom; if it's us against the Devil, I'm not going to politely ask the honorable Mr. Satan to be reasonable and accommodating, I'm going to ridicule and expose, persecute and prosecute by any legal means at my disposal. I'm not going to let people get away with seditious lies and that of course would be just what the damn Republicans would wish for -- for us to be all cozy and decorous and polite while they invade our personal liberty and reduce our civilization to an oppressive and brutal state with workhouses, debtor's prisons, disease and starvation.

Goodness! Make way for Fogg -- that Extenze must have some horrific side effects!

But of course, this is nothing new. All these guys do is offer sick platitudes, like the president, simply to end up proving themselves a bunch of bleedin' liars. Some time back, (O)CT(O)PUS, the anonymous proprietor of The Swash Zone, began leaving the most awful comments on my blog. These were plainly trolling and abusive drive-by taunts. I tolerated them for some time and then finally I sent him an e-mail as follows:

A few months later, I left a couple of comments at The Swash Zone, at entries posted by Captain Fogg and Repsac3, as the blog is a group effort. I frankly didn't make the connection to (O)CT(O)PUS (who I later realized runs the place), and for that transgression I received this threatening warning in my e-mail inbox:

And these are my rules: DO NOT HARASS ANY OF MY WRITERS AT "THE SWASH ZONE" AGAIN. IF YOU HARASS ME OR ANY OF MY WRITERS ONE MORE TIME, I WILL NOTIFY ELOY OAKLEY AND DONALD BERZ AT YOUR PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT AND TAKE IMMEDIATE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST BOTH YOU AND YOUR EMPLOYER. THIS GAME OF YOURS ENDS HERE.

I have to admit this caught me off-guard, and recall this stuff isn't new, as I've received hate-mail and death threats before.

But I want to draw readers attention to the stark differences here in the comparative responses: My original e-mail simply requested of (O)CT(O)PUS that he abide by a standard of decency and relevancy. He was free to comment at my blog without personal attacks on me or my readers. No threat was made or implied. (O)T(O)PUS in return, and in response to comments at posts he had not written, and that were not directed at him, threatened my livelihood, and my employers (oddly enough).

There's a real cheap cowardice at work here that's not only annoying, but downright creepy.

Considering this, it's even more bothersome to find a whole new post dedicated to this threat at American Nihilist, a blog set up by Repsac3 to ridicule and smear me for fun and a bit of revenge (the only relief available in the face of the intellectual incompetence inflicting these demons).

Entitled "DEFAMATION - DONALD STYLE," (O)CT(O)PUS is responding to my take down of Captain Fogg, who implicitly called for the execution of Rush Limbaugh in a post last month. (O)CT(O)PUS gets fairly vicious at the post, but it's the conclusion that's out of this world:

We know these behaviors all too well, and why some of you bother with this pinhead is beyond me. The Coward is not welcome at The Swash Zone; we delete his comments immediately. More disturbing are the comments and e-mails left by his followers: Profane, racist, sexist, homophobic, anti-Semitic … worthy of report to the FBI. What to do?

If the Coward or any of his followers harass you online you, contact President Eloy Oakley at (562) 938-4122 or Executive VP of Academic Affairs Donald Berz at (562) 938-4127 and describe the harassment. For serious online abuse or defamation, there is always this option (case file in progress).

So notice here: Not only has (O)CT(O)PUS now escalated his campaign of harassment with a public call to threaten my employment, but he's accused me of online abuse and defamation without one shred of evidence.

It's been almost six months since I first e-mailed (O)CT(O)PUS and I haven't heard one word from my college administration or from a plaintiff's attorney. It's funny too, because Repsac3's blog is all about abuse and defamation, for example in the next post to follow (O)CT(O)PUS', where Truth101 impugns my reputation by smearing me as "Donald the Dog."

And remember, all of this is taking place at a blog called "American Nihilist," which (if you click the link) is a website specifically designed for a demonic campaign of personal attacks against American Power.

What's all very interesting here is that each and every one of my antagonists goes by an anonymous online handle. Now that's cowardly. And worthy of a little analytical consideration.

Readers may recall that I noted, in response to TBogg, that I'm reading David Denby's Snark. Denby's extremely liberal, so a lot of his stuff is suspect, but I have to admit he's got one of the best discussions of online anonymity I've seen so far:

People who start their own blogs almost always identify themselves, but many snarking writers exercise power anonymously, hiding behind a handle, attacking people who appear in public, who run blogs, or other commenters. The insults come out of nowhere, as if waiting for the occassion. But why hide? This love of anonymity is amazing to me. If you have something to say, why in the world would you want to hide yourself? ....

The answer, of course, is that anonymous writers are either ashamed of what they're saying, or, alternatively, quite proud of what they're saying, but, in either case, they're not eager to confront anyone directly ... Anonymity frees us to attack whites, blacks, Muslims, men, women, gays, birders, arachnophobes, philatelists - frees us in a way that would be impossible in the office, at a cocktail party, in a bar, or a schoolyard ...

Denby continues with the notion that anonymity is inherently childish, something that's available to essentially non-grown-ups. But there's a totalitarianism to anonymity as well, for as Denby notes, "a phone call to the secret police is a much more serious act than a snarking post, but that's the kind of negative vibe anonymity can give off - it's not something to be played with; it has danger lurking in its secrecy."

And that's a perfect way to summarize the cyber-bullying of (O)CT(O)PUS and his demonic allies at American Nihilist.

These people are manifestly ignorant pests of juvenile proportion. But they're totalitarian as well, in the classic standard of today's left where dissent against the Obamessianic line is not tolerated. But things have gotten to the point in which I can't ignore the abuse and attacks. While of course these idiots have no plausible case for a lawsuit, the opposite in my case is nearly true. "Donald the Dog" is pretty close to defamation, although these brilliant hacks don't have the faintest clue as to the inherent hypocrisy of their project.

If it's any consolation to me, it's simply the fact that what I do at American Power is working, and that's to expose the left's truly diabolical plotting for the death of moral right in this country, and when the left is reduced to pure babbling incoherence in failed attempts at intellectual parry, their only recourse is rank bullying.

As always, I'll stand my ground, even in court with legal representation if it comes to that.

Libel Blogger David Hillman (Swash Zone) Workplace Harassment Fail

I met with my vice president for human resources today regarding the claims of "racism" and "harassment" alleged by David Hillman (a.k.a (O)CT(O)PUS) of The Swash Zone.

I can't go into detail as to what went down at the meeting, but it's essential that I post updates of non-proprietary information to the formal record here. The campus inquiry is ongoing and I'll be accompanied by union representatives in case of any forthcoming actions. Recall that David Hillman's allegations are just the latest in his completely deranged (but longstanding) jihad against American Power. Hillman's charges are as preposterous as they are unhinged. A classical neo-communist, (O)CT(O)PUS is so utterly incompetent at anything other than puerile schoolyard bullying that it's not surprising that he'd go all in with a vicious campaign of personal destruction. Indeed, he's updated his post with a new comment to reiterate his desperate end-all motivation to literally annihilate me and the moral clarity I represent:

This will NOT be my last and final comment on the subject of Internet predation, but I hope this will be my last encounter with the Professor of Political Science at Long Beach City College who has stalked the Swash Zone for years.

As expected, he is still wrapping himself inside his First Amendment rights while refusing to take responsibility for his actions. He plays the victim card but has not yet explained this ...

This is totally piss-poor unsubstantiated drivel. Readers can go to the link above to see the libelous claims being thrown around. But interestingly, Hillman is so literally consumed by hatred he's driven to psychotic fantasies of alleged mayhem and stalking. Behold these freakishly phantasmagorical projections with reference to the real-life cyber-stalking and death threats to tech-guru Kathy Sierra:

If he were merely an annoying troll, it would be easy to ignore him. It is less easy, however, to ignore hate messages in my email box that originate from his weblog … fulminations against “stinking-boot” liberals … messages warning of dire consequences and a final reckoning. When one reads this crap, it is easy to understand how Kathy Sierra felt.

I'm sensing a persecution complex!

Jeez, I guess American Power really has the power!

I kid, but this is actually quite serious. The Swash Zone community is actually struggling to devise even more crudely devious methods in their jihad to eviscerate my First Amendment rights to freedom of speech (with emphasis added):

Where bigotry and other morally repugnant acts are concerned, I'm all for sunshine; publicize the nasty things that people say and do as much as possible -- which, by the way, is one of the reasons I'm opposed to moderating such things away. Sometimes it's good to confront and be offended by the things people say and do, and to see that as many other people as possible are offended right along with you. Rather than hide bigoted blog comments, I say highlight them, repeating them as many times as it takes for people to get good and pissed off at the people that post them. (In fact, if the lawyer's don't object, I'd suggest posting all of the threats and other nonsense received via e-mail, as well.) I'm all for blog posts, letters to local media--including the LBCC college newspaper--with full quotes and context, tweets, facebook posts, submissions to "Worst Person in the World" segments, and any other means that uses sunshine and/or moonglow to highlight the bad acts Donald Douglas and those like him engage in.

The only problem, of course, is that there are no "threats and other nonsense" or "racism" or "harassment," or whatever. In fact, IT'S DAVID HILLMAN WHO HAS REPEATEDLY PUBLISHED ALL OF MY WORKPLACE INFORMATION TO FACILITATE ONGOING DIABOLICAL THREATS TO ME, MY FAMILY, AND MY LIVELIHOOD.

The truth is that these people reside outside the boundaries of God-given right, morality, and goodness. This truth is revealed to me inside my heart and in my faith, and readers at American Power (and of spiritual blessing) know that righteousness will prevail and that I'm in eternal graces. It is the eminent case that these most horrible people -- Satan's servants -- can't actually defend themselves against overwhelming argumentation, so they can resort only to the most underworldly campaigns of personal and political destruction imaginable.

I now understand much better why some bloggers choose to remain anonymous, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Truth and goodness always prevail, and so it is here at this blog.

Comrade Repsac3: Racist Commissar of State Security, People's Commissariat for Internet Affairs?

Folks might recall Comrade Repsac3, Commissar of State Security, People's Commissariat for Internet Affairs.

Now, I saw this coming some time back, but didn't say anything because I thought it minor: Turns out Comrade Repsac3's been attacking me as "Halfrican-African." I guess Rush Limbaugh used the term to attack President Obama. But it's a term I don't endorse and have never used at this blog (although I like Rush, and I don't think he's a bigot).

That said, if "Halfrican-American" is really racist, why is Repsac3 trying to smear me with it? I thought progressives were all about decency and tolerance? I guess not. Basically, Comrade Repsac3 thinks that it's somehow okay to attack me as "Halfrican" while at the same time suggesting it's a base, vulgar term. And note that Repsac3, in this context, is not being snarky: According to leftist logic, he's attacking my ethnic identity, and this out of spite and hatred, spewed under the cover of a collateral Limbaugh smear. Now that's disgusting. And for what? I don't ideologically identify as black, unlike some bloggers, such as Ta-Nehisi Coates (whose entire schtick constitutes black-self-loathing socialism).

But that's not all: I've known this about Comrade Repsac3 for some time, but because I'm not one to flinch from the attacks and smears -- capitulating to the left's totalitarianism -- he's become a deranged stalker who hosts a blog just to demonize me and who cruises the entire Internet to attack me in various comment threads.

When Patrick at Political Byline responded to me a month or so ago, Comrade Repsac3 followed Patrick over there to spray his bile:

Anyone who’s spent time at AmPow knows what I think of Douglas’ politics… …but even putting that aside, he’s kind of a douchebag, as your post here so aptly shows. He has no understanding of sarcasm, and has yet to learn that he is not the center of the universe. When it comes right down to it, I feel sorry for him...

And this morning the Comrade left this filthy comment at my blog:

Leaving all the ego and personal vitriol of post and comment aside, I wonder whether the folks who believe that Dr. Douglas cannot speak or act in racist or bigoted ways because of his heritage also feel the same about "full blood" minorities (Jesse Jackson, Sharpton, Farrakhan), or even others of mixed heritage, such as President Obama...

And even if one does believe that no black man or a "halfrican" (thanks, Rush) can be a bigot toward other black folks, what is it that prevents such a man from behaving as a bigot toward hispanics, Muslims, Christians, gay folks, Jews, or women?

Dr Douglas may or may not actually be a bigot--folks can read his words, and decide for themselves--but the argument that he can't be, because he himself has minority blood--whether made by him, or by those who would defend him--doesn't hold water, at least as far as I'm concerned...

See that? Attacking me as "Halfrican" while simultaneously attacking my alleged "bigotry." Orwell would be proud.

But there's more at TNLib's hate-master site, where Comrade Repsac3 hijacked the thread to issue a long screed alleging how awful I am compared to "good" conservatives:

I'm sorry if you think this query rude, but after reading your generally reasonable replies on sites like this one-- Douglas labeled "hate site" The Swash Zone and Truth101's place come to mind, immediately--I've taken to wondering how you walk that fine line between Donald Douglas considering you a blog buddy and he and his thinking you an evil nihilist collaborator for actually treating folks with whom you disagree with common decency and respect.

While I disagree with your politics, I for the most part think you a fine fellow, but I do kinda wish you'd speak your mind more clearly when Donald engages in these attacks on the individuals and blogs you visit pretty regularly, whether in agreement with him or otherwise...

(Two bits well spent, after waiting entirely too long... Unless there's a comment in need of reply, that itch is scratched, and I'll say no more on the subject...)

I could go around all day and find posts that Comrade Repsac3's hijacked for nothing more than the smears. I don't read the comments at Right Wing News, where I'm a guest blogger, but the Comrade goes to town over there as well, for some damned reason, another example of the hated.

And that's not even mentioning American Nihilist, Comrade Repsac3's own blog, where representative entries are entitled, "Why Donald Douglas is a Scumbag."

This is what these people do: They use race as a cudgel to harass constitutionalists and traditionalists as "God-bagging racist homophobic Nazis." Meanwhile, out of the other side of their mouths, they mount the most vicious sexist, racist attacks of their own -- and the media gives them cover. It's an upside down world. So, I called out the Comrade at my post this morning (with corrections in bold italics):

Repsac3: You can quit with the racist allegations. First, nothing Swash Zone alleges is true, so forget that. And what I've written on my own blog is politically incorrect, but in no way bigoted.

As you know damned well, I love all people of all colors, races, religions, etc. I attack people on ideological grounds.

Finally, to keep attacking me as "Halfrican" IS racist. Show me where I've endorsed Rush Limbaugh's use of "Halfrican," or where I've ever attacked Obama as "Halfrican."

In sum, the bigotry is found in your desperation to get the goods on me. And you and your SWASH ZONE hordes are all about hate, as I've shown in this post on TNLib.

This is not really something I would have written about today, but considering all the recent manufactured smears against conservatives as "racists," this one needs to be put to bed.

Captain Fogg Just Can't Go Long!

You know how it is with bullying blowhards.

They talk a real tough talk, but when it's time to walk the walk they go limp. And so it is with Captain Fogg of the Swash Zone (pictured below). This guy started throwing his weight around in my comments, spewing lies about how conservatives block his responses in comment moderation:

It's probably a shame that none of his readers will ever see what I actually wrote to the Donald, nut only the patched together redaction wrapped around a bundle of straw with a target painted on it. He and his cohorts who scream about censorship all use comment moderation and nothing I've written to them, no matter how rational or sincere an attempt at communication ever see the light of day until it's been gutted, skinned and had horns grafted on to the carcass.

Well, I administered the most devastating smackdown seen around these parts in some time -- and that's saying something, considering how many leftists I've hammered for their libelous smears. Anyway, see my post on Old Foggy: "Leftists Are Liars, and I'll Show You..."

But being such a big pussy, the despicable Captain never did take responsibility for spreading his effluence. No sir. Instead, he slinked back over to his yellow-bellied home turf at Swash Zone to do some more trash-talking. Here's the Captain last Monday:

Ah - he's just another chancre on the big, ugly ass of American reactionary politics. He hopes that if he's ugly enough himself, people will mistake him for the ass itself. They won't, the big ass lives in Palm Beach, this guy is nobody.

Responding to him is pointless. The more sincere and obviously correct you are, the more straw he has to burn but if he thinks I'm intimidated, or threatened or impressed, he's crazier than I thought. He needs that job and any actual attempt to slander or god forbid,physically intimidate me would be the end of his miserable and tawdry career.

My only regret is that if it hadn't been for the recession, I might have been able to buy Long Beach Community college and shut it down, letting him look for employment with a resume' sticky with all the things he's said. We can be sure no legitimate school would hire him.

And here's another comment later that afternoon:

In consideration of the accusations he's made against us, it seems unseemly and preposterous to defend the man's "rights." Did he take a moments care to prevent his libelous accusations from doing me any harm? No, he hides behind and abuses some archaic academic bulwark to avoid responsibility. Tenure is not license to libel and that's what he does. This goes far beyond expressing an opinion by inflaming people to foment armed insurrection.

We owe him nothing and humanity is far better off without his stench.

Whoo boy yessiree! Ain't that a tantrum!

Mean too. For a radical leftist, that's not so compassionate, wanting to shut down an entire community college just to spite one little old neoconservative! Obviously, all that trashing clouds the thinking processes. Shoot, no doubt Old Captain's suffering from quite a few physiological breakdowns altogether! I suspect the big blowhard is compensating for other inefficiencies and insecurities -- yep, that's right: Captain Foggy can't go long!

So, I'm imploring the Old Captain to think carefully about Coach Jimmy Johnson's sales pitch up top: That's right. Fogg should call the good folks over at ExtenZe® at 800-298-3171. They'll help him get back on track with increased power, pleasure and performance.

And the sooner the better, really. I'd rather not have to embarrass the guy too much more. Besides, I want him to be happy -- "All You Need is Love!"

So, don't delay, Fogg. Operators are waiting!

Walter James Casper, Hate-Troll and Pathological Liar, Lamely Tries to Score Political Points With Hilarious Make-Believe Abomination

Let me just start by being unequivocally clear: F-k you, Walter James Casper III.

F-k you and the bareback rim station perverts you rode in on. I'm just all torn up about your faux-outrage and political opportunism that, oops, now might be a little over the top and something of which you thought better, you depraved lunatic: "(Edited out... Not something to score points with)..." So, you thought you'd just post this over at the Other McCain's to, what, force conservatives to abandon old Donald?

I defy anyone sane and decent--and that includes some of Donald Douglas' biggest supporters, and especially anyone who has ever been swatted, or who chose to leave their home to protect their family from possible bad behavior by those they blogged about--to say that the post below is not very creepy, or that doxing someone with whom you disagree over the internet is EVER justified.

Oh brother. Talk about a junior high school drama queen. Grow up, Casper, you vile Internet troll and moral reprobate. You posted that to the Other McCain last night, at what, 3:30am eastern time? You think you've been doxed? That would be terrible, you know, to put someone's safety at risk. Just terrible! (Of course, you know first hand about putting people at risk, don't you, you hypocritical creep?)

This was posted by (O)CT(O)PUS (libel blogger David Hillman of the Swash Zone). And it was completely authorized with the invitation and permission of hate-stalker Walter James Casper III.

And that's just one example of the hatred that racist Repsac has enabled and encouraged and participated in during his more than five years of utterly deranged harassment of American Power. Nothing is beyond the pale for Casper. Seriously. Carl Salonen? Now Casper's best buddy and top commenter at American Nihilist? Boy, not too worried about situational ethics, I guess. Casper's longtime friendship with Salonen is a ringing endorsement of these kinds of attacks: "Carl Salonen Libelous Workplace Allegations of Child Pornography and Sexual Harassment at Long Beach City College." If anyone should be abandoned maybe Salonen's a good place to start, no? Seems to me if someone's outraged at even the idea of doxing they would express equal outrage at actual cases of workplace harassment and intimidation, where the perpetrator even bullied the Attorney General of California's office in an attempt to have me fired. But no. Such despicable Internet bullies are welcomed open arms at the hate-site American Nihilist. Folks can see why I'm all lulz over racist Repsac's pathetic bawling.

In any case, the transparency of Repsac's "accuse the accusers" tactic is pretty hilarious. As Robert Stacy McCain wrote the other day:

There is, of course, a specific history to the conflict between them, but it is ultimately irrelevant. There are plenty of people every bit as left-wing as Casper who are not obsessive stalkers, and there are other conservative bloggers who might just as easily become targets for stalking, if ever they attracted the attention of such a grotesquely deformed personality as Casper.

Walter James Casper III has spent years smearing and harassing Professor Douglas, trying to get him fired from his job. This could (and in fact, often does) happen to any blogger who has a day job.

To get an idea of the pathetic nature of Casper’s obsession, he has devoted an entire blog, called “American Nihilist,” to his anti-Douglas jihad. In the past six months, that stalker site has attracted an average of about 15 visitors a day. By contrast, Professor Douglas’s blog has averaged nearly 2,000 visitors daily...

Walter James Casper's a despicable lying half-wit douchebag --- which is to say, he's a regressive leftist. No one cares what happens to him. He deserves whatever malicious fate awaits him. I couldn't care less, although his predicable political opportunism is hilarious, and you gotta give it up for his moral relativism and situational ethics. I mean really, this whole spiel, "OMG, this is infinity times worse than whatever evil things I've done to Donald Douglas in the past and OMG I can't believe any of Donald's conservative friends would ever again have anything to do with him," is just a little too obvious and just a tiny bit desperate.

Get a life, Casper. I suggest you start by closing up shop at your stalking "jihad" blog American Nihilist, which clearly is the source of all your problems. And after that, get some psychological treatment to deal with all of your clearly acute issues of lying, projection and pathetic victimization. Man, that's just sad.

Blogging Anonymity and Blogging Ethics

I should probably weigh in on the Ed Whelan/John Blevins imbroglio. Everyone else is, and I'm getting some links out of it as well!

Some quick background: Ed Whelan outed "Publius" at Obsidian Wings. The latter's real name is John F. Blevins, and he's an Assistant Professor of Law at the South Texas College of Law. Check the links above, and Memeorandum. At issue are the attacks on Whelan as the right's go-to "legal hitman." The term is from the "Anonymous Liberal," so the irony there is rich. Readers can assess who comes out on top in the substantive debate. No matter, though. Whelan comes off as putz, either way. Both James Joyner and Dan Riehl eloquently make the case against Whelan.

Now, I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't out someone who writes anonymously (or "pseudonymously," as the case may be). Repsac3 got mad at me once for using his real name in a comment thread. But he had posted his real name at his Twitter link, at he linked to it at the sidebar. So, it's kind of hard to get mad at being "outed" if you "outed" yourself.

Frankly, if a blogger writes under complete anonymity (or pseudonymity), that's his prerogative. And it's not up to me or anyone else, in pure spite, to reveal their identity. It's kind of cowardly, in my opinion, to use a pseudonym, but I can understand it. After the Repsac3 exchange, PrivatePigg, a conservative blogger and friend of mine, said he blogs anonymously simply to protect his privacy from the radical leftists he knows will stalk him and his family.

It happens. As reader know, I routinely wade into the comment threads at leftist blogs to debate and ridicule. I don't claim to be nice about it. I've even used profanity in a comment thread at "Dr. Hussein Biobrain's" blog. But I don't threaten people; I skewer. And some folks can't handle being revealed as nihilist America-bashers. After commenting a few times at The Swash Zone, I received this e-mail from "(O)CT(O)PUS," the blog's publisher:

DO NOT HARASS ANY OF MY WRITERS AT "THE SWASH ZONE" AGAIN. IF YOU HARASS ME OR ANY OF MY WRITERS ONE MORE TIME, I WILL NOTIFY ELOY OAKLEY AND DONALD BERZ AT YOUR PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT AND TAKE IMMEDIATE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST BOTH YOU AND YOUR EMPLOYER. THIS GAME OF YOURS ENDS HERE.

I don't harrass. If folks can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Or go to comment moderation at least!

But if there was ever good reason to blog anonymously, real harrassment such as this is it. "(O)CT(O)PUS" made the rounds at leftist blogs to brag about how he'd "kicked my ass." And he PUBLISHED MY WORK CONTACT INFORMATION so that his co-bloggers could call my college president. I wrote about it here, "(O)CT(O)PUS = CYBER-BULLY."

What's funny about this, in the present debate, is that while Whelan's coming off like an adolescent jerk, the truth is that radical leftists have made a career out of "outing" those with whom they disagree. TBogg, whose real name is Tom Boggioni, has made a pastime of it, as Willliam Jacobson reveals:

So yeah, screw Ed Whelan. The guy's coming off like a thin-skinned prick. But just know that all the faux-outrage on the left is totally hypocritical. These folks get off on outing, snarking, shaming, and demonizing conservatives. That's their livelihood. This secular demonology has no counterpart on the right. Sure, some conservatives are peurile, but leftists are masters at the game.

P.S.: I have a lot of respect for conservatives who get along amicably with leftists. I don't do it well, online at least. Some of my best friends are Democrats (scroll down, here, for my colleague Dr. Greg Joseph, who's a Truman Democrat). But these friends would never put up with the kind of filth that is the stock and trade of today's netroots hordes.

TNLib at The Swash Zone: Prototypical Leftist Hatemonger

Readers will recall that The Swash Zone's a hate site. The proprietor, genuinely evil, has waged a personal jihad against this blog, which culminated recently in an unsuccessful campaign of workplace harassment and intimidation. It's a group blog and one of those who writes there is TNLib, which is a pseudonym for a woman out of Nashville, Tennessee.

Anyway, TNLib's left a comment at JBW's amateurism of the day (to which I responded earlier):

As you know, I share your revulsion to people like DD. I don't visit his blog - not only because he's an ignorant vicious prick but because of his commenters who are just as vile.

I have several conservatives on my blog - not because I agree with them but because they themselves write what they perceive to be well-reasoned arguments and they do so civilly. They do not rant the SOS, they are quite civil and do not make personal attacks or use racial slurs.

I visit their blogs, read their posts but never leave a comment. It is their followers who are less than human. I don't look upon these dog fights as sport and I guess there are more rewarding places to be.

People like DD are a waste of my time and energy. It's like walking into a biker joint where the beer drinkers are course, mean and where their brains are fried from too much beer and drugs. These people can not be reasoned with.

I believe in academic freedom but I can only imagine what kind of professor he is.

I can be a vicious prick (especially when deflecting neo-communist nimrods such as this), so I'll give her that. But ignorant? Not so much. Like libel blogger David Hillman, TNLib's a seething toxic dump of leftist hatred. And note that part about "can not be reasoned with." Actually, that should probably read, "he's too sharp for me to win a debate, so I'll just demonize him as a vicious prick and avoid his blog like the plague."

Folks like this aren't good people. That comment above pretty much constitutes hate mail, only let's say it was published at a screaming communist message board.

And that's the first time I've seen the "what kind of professor dig" in a while, although I'll confess: I'm a good one.

Continuing Lies by Cowardly Hate-Blogger W. James Casper in Left's Demonic Workplace Intimidation Campaign

W. James Casper continues to lie about his involvement in the long campaign of workplace attacks that have been repudiated by the army of righteous conservatives in recent weeks. (See: "Online Disagreements and the Offline World We Live In...")

Typically, the epic coward at American Nihilist ignored the universal moral approbation directed against all of those making the attacks. Further, he's now justifying the attacks by saying that both sides do it and that it's not just a progressive thing, or something. Casper keeps claiming that "right-of-center" bloggers are also among those who've launched demonic campaigns. And that's just more lies. Specifically, Casper is lying about E.D. Kain's ideological attacks of workplace harassment. I blogged about E.D. Kain because he betrayed me and a number of other bloggers who he burned by pulling the plug on Neo-Constant without even so much as a thank you or acknowledgment of their contributions. Kain did that because he embarrassed himself by selling out the right to join up with the likes of communist Freddie deBoer. I didn't like it. I blogged about it. I make no apologies. That's life. And Erik Kain's a cowardly little prick and Andrew Sullivan wannabe. I don't like him. But I never lied about him. I never contacted him personally. I simply wrote about my disagreements online. I wrote the truth. And for that E.D. Kain contacted my employer not once but twice. As many have pointed out, including law professor William Jacobson at the time, it's extremely bad form to contact someone's work, especially if you're unhappy that someone posted things about you that are entirely true, no matter how inconvenient. That is, you don't have a right to harass someone for speaking their mind, but that's what E.D. Kain did and that's what W. James Casper has endorsed. Indeed, that's who James Casper is.

W. James Casper, who, folks will recall, endorsed racist attacks against me by The Pale Scot, praises the workplace campaigns as not only deserved but effective:

That's another malicious falsehood. There's only one person I've stopped mentioning, one of the asshats at Lawyers, Guns and Money, and that's because there's a legal arrangement in place that prevents me from making references to this asshole at the blog. As for the others, they haven't been worth my time, but it's not because their attacks have been effective, as racist W. James Casper claims. In fact, that's just more lies from Comrade Racist Repsac3. I called out E.D Kain in June, for example: "Erik Kain of Forbes: Wishy Washy Pussy." And I'll continue to call him out when I see fit. Kain's a weasel. He'd prefer the world not know about his cheap ass ideological opportunism, so he attempted to get someone fired rather than just debate the issues like a man. And for the record: E.D. Kain long ago came out as a progressive. Despite this, W. James Casper, for over a year, has been spreading a disinformation campaign about how Kain's allegedly right-of-center. He's not, and he said so himself at the hardline progressive blog Balloon Juice: "Why I am Not a Conservative."

And that's yet another example of the kind of routine lies spread by Racist Repsac3.

Now I probably wouldn't be commenting on this again, but some of Racist Repsac3's lies are particularly egregious. For example, there is no moral equivalence between the left's campaign to get me fired and the right's response to whatever happened years ago to Jeff Goldstein. The fact is that a deranged progressive troll named Deborah Frisch threatened Goldstein's family. See: "Blog blunder fells UA teacher." And at Black Five, "Dr. Frisch (did I mention she's a psych[o] professor at the University of Arizona?) has repeatedly and quite disturbing levied DEATH THREATS against Jeff's 2 year old child."

When someone makes death threats it's damned right for people to be concerned. But I don't endorse workplace attacks for any reason. And I take exception to W. James Casper's sick moral relativism. In Casper's nihilist hate world, speaking my mind on my blog is tantamount to making death threats like those of Deb Frisch against Jeff Goldstein's 2 year-old child. And let's be clear about this, THAT IS EVIL. W. James Casper is consumed by hatred of difference. My conservative posse stood up because they saw evil directed against me, by Carl Salonon, E.D. Kain, Alex Knepper, the atheists, and now Captain Fogg. Am I forgetting anybody? Because that's a progressive thing. IT'S THE LEFT THAT DOES THIS.

They attest to the recurring patterns (and thus appraisals) of my writing: attributes of honesty, decency and patriotism, and the belief that these qualities are most hated by progressives. Some time back, one of my colleagues suggested that no matter what the nature of online disagreements, no matter how intense or vile, taking such disagreements to an opponent's employer is outside the bounds of decency: it is simply un-American. And I would add that when those same workplace complaints involve blatant and patently false allegations amounting to libel, those taking such actions are not only un-American, but genuinely satanic. And I have to apologize to longtime readers who might be getting bored with such blogging, but writing about the progressive left's perpetual campaign of personal destruction, against my economic livelihood, is how I'm able to deal with the issues, keep my sanity, and of course clear my good name. In fact, the opposite's been true: Accusers have been revealed as the hateful demonic scum that they are. Leftists have no principles beyond their desire for power - and to use that power to satisfy their covetousness, envy, and sate their hedonism.

They are moral and cultural and political relativists - EXCEPT when it comes to attacking the people who get in the way of their socialist plans. On the one hand, they have no problem attacking so-called right-wingers as immoral people whose behavior is beyond the pale, while on the other hand defending horrifying practices of other peoples as being acceptable on the basis of culturally relativity.

This is why they practice no-holds-barred politics everywhere - including the blogosphere - and yet decry and attack people they see as political foes.

On the so-called right --- (I say so-called because as Mark Levin correctly points out, people who are called right-wingers today are at the center of traditional American politics and are actually only as "right-wing" as Paine and Jefferson and Madison and Adams) --- we have principles that guide our politics and personal behavior. This makes us fight fair.

What they've done to you is what they've done to opponents for years and years and decades and decades. It's what they did to Palin and what they did to McCarthy. (McCarthyism is now synonymous with witch-hunting even though McCarthy has NOTHING to do with the HOUSE Un-American Activities Committee, and only went after communists in the government and he was largely correct in his targets. Read Coulter's book on the subject.)

I grew up on the hard left - in the lap of the radical chic. I know these people like the back of my hand - and know many of them to this day. Their politics disgusts me. They need to be deprogrammed. It requires relentlessness, courage, and steadfastness to high moral principles.

Don, I've always admired your desire to fight on the front line, but never realized how deeply you fight behind enemy lines (beyond blogging).

There must be some conservative version of the ACLU that go beyond defending religious expression (like ADF and ACLJ) that could come to your defense in an organized and imposing manner to defend your God-given rights to express yourself conservatively.

Have you tried calling into conservative radio talk shows? Laura Ingraham may not have a huge audience, but I'll bet she has great advice or at least knows who you could contact. Hannity has the audience, and your plight may be of interest to his show. Think big and let the world know what you're up against.

Academic Tenure and the 'Damascus Conversion to Unpopular Views'

I generally don't like the academic tenure system. For the most part, it promotes college "sinecures" for professors, who won't have to perform up to the standards required upon hiring at an institution. But tenure has its usefulness. One of the main arguments you always hear is about "academic freedom," which is really an argument about protecting faculty from those who disapprove of their views. The academic freedom argument's been something I've thought about more recently, considering the various attacks I've been subject to on account of blogging. The most invidious of course are the workplace harassment episodes featuring E.D. Kain and Octopus at The Swash Zone. On top of that is a corps of radical leftists at my college which has objected to my conservative views and, most recently, my conservative bulletin board, which in turn devolved into a full-scale civil rights investigation (with the gunsights eventually turned on me for alleged "libel" and "hate-speech," blah, blah ...).

So, I'm taking an interest in this debate on tenure over at Volokh Conspiracy. See, "Debating Tenure" (via Instapundit). In responding to a feature at NYT, author Ilya Somin links to "Do We Need Tenure to Protect Academic Freedom?", and this passage (with the key sentence in paragraph #4 in bold):

In recent weeks, a number of prominent professor-bloggers have criticized the tenure system, including Bryan Caplan, Freakonomics author Steve Levitt, Brian Tamanaha, and our own David Bernstein. These writers all point out that tenure protects shirkers and mediocre scholars. I would add that it also protects professors who are bad teachers or mistreat students in ways that fall short of the very severe offenses (i.e. - serious sexual harrassment or other criminal misconduct) that would allow the school to fire a tenured faculty member. I also agree with Bryan Caplan and David Bernstein's suggestion that tenure persists despite its inefficiency in large part because universities are nonprofit or governmental institutions that have little incentive to adopt efficient policies.

However, none of these writers fully address the main argument in favor of tenure: the claim that it is needed to protect the academic freedom of professors with unpopular political views. That argument is not completely without merit, but is very much overstated.

As David mentions in his post (linked above), the institution of tenure is not enough to prevent ideological discrimination in academic hiring. A faculty that wants to discriminate can still do so in entry level hiring or at the point when it is decides whether or not an assistant professor gets promoted to tenure. If the faculty or administration is intent on enforcing ideological conformity, it can usually do so quite effectively even without having the ability to fire tenured professors. If it is not, then tenure is probably not needed to protect academic freedom at that particular institution.

At most, therefore, tenure will only protect the academic freedom of professors who either 1) manage to keep their unpopular views hidden from their colleagues until after they get tenure, or 2) have a road to Damascus conversion to unpopular views after getting tenured status. Such cases are not unheard of, but they are likely to be extremely rare. Tenure might also occasionally protect a professor whose views are generally acceptable to his colleagues and the administration, but who occasionally makes a stray unpopular or un-PC remark. For example, Ward Churchill's far left views were apparently acceptable to the University of Colorado administration and faculty (at least to the extent that they didn't want to get rid of him) until he really went off the deep end by calling the victims of 9/11 attack "little Eichmans." I suspect, however, that, even in the absence of tenure, it is unlikely that universities will often seek to fire professors just for making one or a few isolated controversial comments.

There is no way of perfectly protecting professors who convert to political views unpopular with their colleagues or make controversial remarks. However, perfect protection is probably unnecessary, because cases of firing for such reasons are likely to be rare ...

Joan Walsh, who previously slurred tea party patriots as "traitors," attacked Andrew Breitbart at CPAC as unhinged, arguing that his brutal take down of the Salon sleazebags "doesn't get the work done."

Oh, but it does, Joan. Which is why Max Blumenthal is now reduced to making new allegations against "racist black front groups."

In any case, Founding Bloggers repsponds, "(EXCLUSIVE VIDEO) Did Andrew Breitbart “Breakdown” At CPAC?":

Apparently, Salon.com doesn’t think that anger and outrage are normal reactions for a human being to have in response to being falsely smeared and branded a racist.

Salon.com sees the videos of an angry Andrew Breitbart as not much more than an opportunity to ridicule someone with whom they disagree.

By using these videos in this particular way, Salon reveals that it considers the righteous indignation of a man falsely accused to be funny. A real knee-slapper.

That’s very revealing because the videos that the folks at Salon.com are promoting clearly demonstrate why Breitbart is so furious. He explains it to their cameras repeatedly. Perhaps the editors at Salon.com are too politically tone deaf to hear the message.
