Rally 'Round the Flag After Killing Osama Bin Laden
Discussed this with my students today, and Frank Newport has some background, "History Suggests a Rally in Obama's Job Approval Rating as a Result of Bin Laden's Death."

While there is satisfaction in eliminating Bin Laden, the reality is that Obama has alienated much of his "peace at any price" base by maintaining a military presence in Iraq, expanding the military presence in Afghanistan, and being a proxy for NATO is Libya.
His use of the military is at odds with his rhetoric about talking the world into peace. He has emboldened Iran and their new ally, Egypt. He has created a dangerous situation for Israel which increases the probability of a general Middle East conflict.
The action to take out Bin Laden changes nothing with regard to his overall handling of foreign affairs, while domestic affairs remain in shambles.
This will sink in soon.
If I had time, I spent an afternoon or two Googling all the antiwar statements against the war on terror, waterboarding, Afghanistan, Iraq ... you name it? The fact that this president is simply completely the job of his predecessor drives progressives nuts.
What truly is amazing is the constantly shifting morality of the Left and Progressives especially. It would seem that they hold no real principles that cannot be sacrificed for political gain.
One only needs to use Nancy Pelosi for an example. In 2006 killing Osama didn't matter and now its huge. If one has a cynical bone in their body one might wonder if the Left does anything for the good of this country for it does seem that everything is a political calculation.
I agree with Bruce hall that this is just a momentary uptick and will quickly ebb. So much of Obama's agenda is antithetical to the needs of this country that Obama and his minions will not be able to resist thinking they can carry on unimpeded. Nothing has really changed.
The fact that the "media" is extolling Obama so loudly only indicates that they recognize that finally he has done something right which I would suggest that he had no real choice, but to take this action.
I do love how badly this makes the Left look. At least their useful idiot, which they discarded quickly after Obama won the election, Cindy Sheehan is consistent with her hatred of this country. That cannot be said for the vast majority on the Left.
