The proposed reforms are moderate and Wisconsin public employee benefit contributions would be smaller than the national average. But get this:
The battle of Mad Town is a seminal showdown over whether government union power can be tamed, and overall government reined in. The alternative is higher taxes until the middle class is picked clean and the U.S. economy is no longer competitive. Voters said in November that they want reform, and Mr. Walker is trying to deliver. It does not seem that the Gov is asking anything outrageous. Not like he is telling them that they must take a fifty percent cut in pay or anything. These folks whine a bit much methinks.
I grew up in Wauwatosa, after Milwaukee and Madison the third biggest city in the state [Green Bay is the fourth largest!]. Scott is a typical Tosan, if there is such an animal, and I come from three generations of Tosa residents. To think that hundreds of slimeball lefties showed up in front of his home there is ridiculous. Knowing the town like the back of my hand, I'd venture that any sort of threat the police were unable to handle, the neighbors would break up with extreme prejudice. Tosa is as Republican as it gets.
Hank Aaron and Kareem Abdul Jabbar lived about a mile away from my home, and Red Schoendienst, a Cardinal hall of famer playing for the Braves, was on my paper route.
The problem with Wisconsin, of course, is that it spawns assassins. The fact is that Charles Guiteau, Leon Czolgosz, the guy who wounded Teddy Roosevelt in Milwaukee during a speech and the fellow who shot Gov. Wallace all hailed from or spent time in Wisconsin. I fear some cheesehead leftist will try to off Scott Walker for fighting the good fight.
Remember how after the Arizona assassination attempt last month, so much was made of a website by Sarah Palin with supposed crosshairs?
The union thugs have signs with Walker's face in the line of sight of crosshairs. Hypocrisy, anyone? How'd you like it served?
BTW, John Dickerson's mother, Nancy, the TV anchor way back in the day, taught English in Wauwatosa right after college before going into journalism. And Liberace, of all people, lived about two miles from my Tosa home....?

The issue is not only about personal pay cut (I don't see big fat bankers doing this) but about workers' right to collective bargaining.
I grew in the Mad city, the union guys used to love busting heads durring strikes after a few cold ones. I say let them start a revolution, we will finish it .
So this is the type of person we allow to teach our kids?
No WONDER our college graduates are so susceptible to "The Big Lie".
PS- for everybody whining about "collective bargaining": it USED to be that one of the downsides of public-sector jobs was that they didn't pay all that well, salary-wise. But of course, there were counter-balancing positives: job stability and security, guaranteed advancement, good benefits, and a guaranteed pension after only 20 to 30 years.
Somehow we've kept all the former benefits AND upped the formerly-moderate payscale AND allowed Public-Employee Unions to call strikes which halt vital services any time some union official thinks his demands for "More, ever MORE" will be met with the dreaded word "No".
Everybody else in the country is having to tighten his-or-her belt. The "gimmee-mine-or-else" unions can learn to do the same. Really.
