Democrats Rally Their Own Thugs to Visit Town Halls, District Offices

From Jake Tapper, "Painting Protestors as "Partisan Mobs with Lies About Health Reform," Democrats Rally Their Own Activists to Visit Members of Congress at Town Halls, District Offices":

Supporters of President Obama formerly signed up as members of "Obama for America" received an email today from Mitch Stewart, the director of the group's current incarnation, Organizing for America, to show up at town halls and congressional offices as a counter to the protestors against the president's health care reform push.

Painting the protestors as "Insurance companies and partisan attack groups...stirring up fear with false rumors about the President's plan," Stewart's email tells supporters whom their member of Congress is and even provides information about town hall meetings they may be holding.

Writes Stewart: "As you've probably seen in the news, special interest attack groups are stirring up partisan mobs with lies about health reform, and it's getting ugly. Across the country, members of Congress who support reform are being shouted down, physically assaulted, hung in effigy, and receiving death threats. We can't let extremists hijack this debate, or confuse Congress about where the people stand."

Supporters are told to stop by local congressional offices to show support for health care reform with the option of a "quick conversation with the local staff, tell(ing) your personal story, or even just drop(ping) off a customized flyer and say that reform matters to you."

After participants sign up, they're sent to a webpage (an example of one for Nevadans is
HERE.) where they're told to "Stay calm and positive. While some are attempting to disrupt and shut down debate, our goal is to engage in meaningful, respectful discussion. Remaining calm, positive and polite while speaking to any staff member is the best way to be heard."

Geez, Donald. You really DO live in your own reality. You quote a story that says Obama is sending emails to supporters requesting them to show their support for his agenda, while telling them to be polite and respectful. And from this, you determine that Democrats are rallying thugs?

I myself received one of these emails (being on the mail list, of course), and it gave me good advice on visiting Senator Cronyn's office, which they knew wasn't far from my house. (Oh noes, I'm on their Friends List!) And I'm actually considering it. And if I do, I'm going to be extremely friendly, as I know there's no point in being angry with them. I see nothing wrong about this and can't imagine why you posted anything about it or why you smear us as "thugs".

What is your major malfunction, dude? Obama asks us to be polite, while you were happy that your side was shouting at my congressman and chased him to his car. And you dare call us thugs? Hypocrisy, thy name is Donald.

Biobrain, like always, you want us to accept the statements of the President and his supporters at face value, based on one report.

However, we can see past the public facade, and perceive what is really going on. We know what we are dealing with ... the side of the political divide that has embraced moral relativism so tightly, they are capable of almost anything in their quest for power ... power over areas so integral to individual liberty, they make the Left's worst nightmares about the PATRIOT Act read like a Cato Institute position paper ... and they are willing to engage in old-fashioned thug tactics to implement it "for the greater good".

You are defending the indefensible -- not the beatings, but the use of plausible deniability by your political allies to have their cake and eat it too, as you cheer them on for "sticking it" to the evil insurance companies ... and that is neither intelligent, nor wise.

So Rich, I'm naive for not reading between the lines, and when Obama tells me to politely talk to Senator Cronyn's staff while smiling, they're REALLY telling me to shout and scare his staff? Really? Gee, I guess I AM the dumb one, as I was actually thinking about following his advice and being polite to them.

I guess maybe I screwed up last year when I went door-to-door with my daughter before the Dem primary to remind people to vote and they insisted that we we needed to be polite to everyone. I guess they were REALLY telling me to act like a thug and I blew it.

And does it need to be remembered that Donald and other conservatives really WERE actively encouraging rightwingers to shout at Dem congressmen and scare them? Donald and you were quite insistent that if we didn't bow to their wishes, these patriotic citizens would get even more angry and that it would be our fault.

And who the hell are you to accuse ME of moral relativism? You guys are the ones who think it's good to scare Democratic congressmen and wrong to scare Republican congressmen. And that it was wrong to compare Bush to Hitler but ok to compare Obama to Hitler (as Donald has done). And that it was ok for Bushies to stifle dissent but wrong for Obamabots to do so. That's straight-up moral relativism without any doubt.

I, on the other hand, ALWAYS discourage thuggish behavior, ALWAYS discourage comparisons to Hitler, and believe that everyone should obey the same rules of decency and ethics, always. And you dare accuse me of moral relativism.

Biobrain ... yes, I do dare.

If you do not tolerate moral relativism, you wouldn't be so invested in the party that has embraced it.

You say we don't shout down Republicans ... you're simply wrong about that. Remember Shamnesty? One reason we are not talking about President McCain and VP Palin is conservative disgust with the top of the ticket.

Bush stifling dissent? A couple of years ago, I watched thousands march in DC, with signs saying "F--- Bush" and other disgusting things. Real stifling there.

OTOH, calling people on the capret for "dissent" that is intellectually dishonest, and can make a war longer and harder, is not "stifling". But then again, you share their intellectual dishonesty, so it's no wonder you might feel stifled.

We thank you and your fellow-travelers for teaching us, by both example and error, the proper way to shout down our opponents ... There is a time to shout down your opponents ... when they are intellectually dishonest.

That's why we are so loud right now ... and why I'm here debating you.
