But Katrina vanden Heuvel's opening essay is a socialist eye-opener:
Mr. Obama has a mandate for change. People support reconstruction of America's crumbling physical infrastructure, and of our society. Here are a few steps I hope Mr. Obama will take: Reverse our deepening economic inequality by using this country's still immense wealth to assure that all Americans have the health care, housing and education they need; re-engage the world with wisdom and humility about the limits of military power; cut billions from wasteful defense budgets that empty our treasury without making us more secure; tackle the deep corruption in a financial system that consistently favors corporations over workers; respond with urgency to the climate crisis with an Apollo-like project to make America a clean-energy innovator; restore our tattered Constitution; protect a worker's right to organize; define a new spirit of sacrifice and service; clean up our elections; and reaffirm his campaign-trail commitment to end not just the war in Iraq but also "end the mindset that took us into" that war. Do not endanger the promise of this administration by escalating militarily in Afghanistan, further draining resources that are vital for rebuilding here at home.

Clean-up elections. ACORN? That would be funny if she meant it as a joke. Socialist heaven.
In other words, let's disarm in a dangerous world, socialize the economy and drown in debt while we're waiting to be invaded or attacked by every tin-horn despot from Hugo Chavez to Ima Dinnerplate.
Socialists: perfect reverse baraometers of what government should be.
I read the increasing military involvement in Afghanistan as the money part of Katrina's "essay". Trust me, the "surge" will be minimal at best and President Obama will find a way to cut and run there too. The problem with the left is that they really think that we could have a "low-cost" kind of war like the air war in Kosovo under former President Clinton. People like Katrina are delusional about the real threat to the security of the United States. It is radical, Islamofacist terror. And before anyone rails about how if we just advanced all the Islamic nations, almost all those who were involved in the 9/11 attacks were very educated.
But if we just advanced all the Islamic nations...Oh wait, Righty64 already covered that. OK, maybe if rather than educating the Islamists we just relegated every nutball on the planet (educated and not) who believes that there is an all-powerful god who can do anything (as long as that "anything" is exactly what they want him to do) to the dustbin of history's crazies, then we'll have the logical and peaceful world we long for. Ya think?
Oh, any crazy Christians or Muslims or whatevers who disagree with this strategy: now is your time to speak out against it. Go nuts.
Moving forward with the 666 beast theory. As we know, I think Donald, Obama has been secretly funded by Muslims throughout his college years. Al Monsour (the one who said don't pity whites - cut off the ears and noses of their children - I believe he said) got him into Harvard with all the Muslim money flowing into Harvard.
Given that he is the 666 beast, imo, it's time to theorize the "real" Obama. Let's take more seriously, and literally, the statements of James Cone - the theologian of the Marxist Black Liberation Theology movement - Reverend Wright's (who hates whites and Jews) theology:
"In 1977, Cone wrote...: I think the time has come for black theologians and church people to move beyond a mere reaction to white racism in America and begin to extend our vision of a new socially constructed humanity in the whole inhabited world...For humanity is whole, and cannot be isolated into racial and national groups.[7]"
"Hoover Institute fellow Stanley Kurtz, in a political commentary in National Review, wrote that:..So-called Christianity, as commonly practiced in the United States, is actually the racist Antichrist. "Theologically," Cone affirms, "Malcolm X was not far wrong when he called the white man 'the devil.'" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Hal_Cone
" * Founder of black liberation theology
* Professor of Systematic Theology at the Union Theological Seminary in New York City
* Views America as an irredeemably racist nation
* "What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of Black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love." -- James Cone, A Black Theology of Liberation
* “This country was founded for whites and everything that has happened in it has emerged from the white perspective. What we need is the destruction of whiteness, which is the source of human misery in the world.” -- James Cone
Ordained by the African Methodist Episcopal Church, James Hal Cone is a theologian credited most notably with founding and advancing black liberation theology, which combines tenets of Christian socialism and the Black Power movement. He came into the forefront of public consciousness when Jeremiah Wright, Barack Obama’s controversial pastor, named him in 2007 as the preeminent influence on his on theology.
Working from a strong Marxist base, liberation theology teaches that the New Testament gospels can be understood only as calls for social activism, class struggle, and revolution aimed at overturning the existing capitalist order and installing, in its stead, a socialist utopia where today’s poor will unseat their “oppressors” and become liberated from their material (and, consequently, their spiritual) deprivations. An extension of this paradigm, black liberation theology seeks to foment a similar Marxist revolutionary fervor founded on racial rather than class solidarity."
Please understand that this is going to be religious/race Marxism that the 666 beast will institute in the apocalypse. There are already concentration camps built across the US. It would seem to me in the apocalypse that Europeans (whites) are going to be wholesale slaughtered. It won't be "enough" to state that one will "switch" to Islam to be spared. The 666 beast will wholesale slaughter whites worldwide. He will pretend to be something he is not. But Anglos will be slaughtered worldwide, imo, due to the Christian Western worldview. Being an atheist will not "save" JBW. His white skin will deliver him to the religious/racial genocide of the 666 beast.
Please note: I didn't "make up" the statements of Cone who so many today in the USA follow - including Rev. Wright and including, by discipleship, Obama. They've both already written their "Mein Kampf" books. It's just that people are so enamored by the 666 beast - they choose not to believe the harbingers of these greetings. Moreover, no one is looking at him according to the evil rather than the appearance of his false front. Could he be plotting and planning the wholesale slaughter of all Europeans (thus whites)?? Absolutely. The 666 beast will do just that.
Hear me now. Believe me later. But take warning.
Grace.
JBW ... you decry those who believe in an omniscient Creator, yet you believe in your own omniscience enough to summarily dismiss them as loons.
Remember what Clint Eastwood said ... a man's gotta know his limitations.
Casebolt/JBW: JBW may be steppin' too far over the line for me, too... It depends on whether he means that everyone who believes that there is an all-powerful god who can do anything is a nutball, or that there are nutballs among those who believe there is an all-powerful god who can do anything.
The first is certainly offensive to those who believe--as I said yesterday, while I've no problem with anyone's beliefs, some are better left unsaid, lest one be thought rude--but I completely agree with the second. If your God is preaching hatred of or death to those unlike yourself, you are a nutball / loon, whether you're a guy in Afghanistan dressed all in white with a long flowing beard, or a suburban (CA, is it?) housewife.
YMMV, of course...
JBW Maybe we should follow in the footprints of some famous leaders who were Atheists (Stalin, Hitler, Mao . . .)
Hitler's religious beliefs and fanaticism :
"Many American books, television documentaries, and Sunday sermons that preach of Hitler's "evil" have eliminated Hitler's god for their Christian audiences, but one only has to read from his own writings to appreciate that Hitler's God equals the same God of the Christian Bible. Hitler held many hysterical beliefs which not only include, God and Providence but also Fate, Social Darwinism, and ideological politics. He spoke, unashamedly, about God, fanaticism, idealism, dogma, and the power of propaganda. Hitler held strong faith in all his convictions. He justified his fight for the German people and against Jews by using Godly and Biblical reasoning. Indeed, one of his most revealing statements makes this quite clear:
"Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord.""
There's lots more in support of Hitler's Catholicism, at several sites, btw...
So Stogie... If you thought Hitler was who he was because of atheism, do you think he was who he was because of Catholicism? (Or, perhaps, is the whole thing a fatuous way of lookin' at people?)
Then there's this: Acts of religiously motivated terrorism by Christian extremists
Tim McVeigh et al, or those "Christians" who bombed abortion clinics or shot doctors, didn't do what they did because of Christian beliefs, of course. Some of them claim they did, but it would be foolhardy to believe them (just as it's foolhardy to blame atheism for the acts of Mao & Stalin.) Mao & McVeigh & Stalin & Hitler were sick, sick people missing a fundamental sense of value for human life, but religion, or the lack of it, was not responsible for their acts.
Anybody recognize anyone we know on this page?: CHRISTIAN RECONSTRUCTIONISM, DOMINION THEOLOGY AND THEONOMY
I'm sorry... in my last comment: cross out "Stogie", insert "Shoprat" (Paying more attention to what I was sayin' than who I was sayin' it to.)
LAT, the ACORN stuff is bullshit but Obama is president now so I'm not going to waste time on it.
Grace, yeah...Is anybody else actually reading what she writes anymore?
Rich, I decry (as repsac rightly surmised) nutcases who kill innocent people because they think a god told them it was OK. You wanna believe in an invisible sky god? Fine, I have many friends and family members who do, but don't mess with my life or anybody else's because of it.
And since when is omniscience required to dismiss someone as a loon? As I recall, you've done so to me several times in the past. So, are you omniscient or did you just learn a new big word you wanted to use?
And yes shoprat, an inspired argument. Let's pick out the worst humanity has to offer (as reppy said, Hitler's all yours) as representatives of what we believe and then attack each other's beliefs based on that, You're smart, and I'm not just saying that because the mustache makes you look so.
